    Gosh the story for this game is absolutely terrrrribbllleeee. It's a shame, because it has such amazing gameplay I wish they'd put at least a little time and effort in the presentation. I know you can say just ignore the story, but it makes me wonder... does the GB community think a game like this needs a good story?

    It would help the game, but I think it has a lot of stuff to do after the bad story line. My problem is that I have played it for like 60 hours and have 86% complete. But it all blend together after awhile.

    I think it works to its advantages. If it had a high quality story like GTA4, the impulse to wreak all flavours of chaos might not be so strong.
    It's literally just to act as playground more than a story-driven narrative that happens to have alot of insanity in between.

    The story is meant to be a secondary thing to the action in the game. It's all of the goofy shit you do in between the scripted parts that make this game memorable.

    I can understand why they didn't put any time or effort into the voice acting or writing, and instead put all their resources into making the action fun, but the game could have used it.   It doesn't have to be GTAIV in tone or story, but a mid-tier James Bond-ish story and acting job would have done well for it.  As is it was so terrible I just skipped the cutscenes for the most part, and the story "twists" were so lame that it took away from the game for me.

    A good story is always nice. But sometimes a bad story is just as good.

    You're taking it seriously. The game doesn't even take it seriously. It's like a Grindhouse game or something.

    @yakov456:
    That is a spot on assessment.

    I know for me personally I have skipped all but the first cut scene. Its strange for me because I usually don't mind horrible dialogue / voice acting. I have too date only played 4 missions the rest of the time (15 hours) I have spent blowing shit up. I have never played a open world game with a great story because their hasn't been one yet.  I have to say that although GTA4 had a serious tone it did not make it a epic tale. In reality all of these game types the story takes a back seat.

    a good story would be nice, but i would've liked a fully regenerating healthbar instead of constantly hunting for medkits more

    I love the fact that the story is terrible. If the story was fantastic then you'd have people taking it seriously and starting to talk about the physics of the grappling hook and how a parachute can infinitely re-deploy.  The story is as cheesy B movie as guns that never need to reload.

    Not every game can be Saints Row 2, plus terrible dialogue is so much more memorable.  Some of the bridge limbo comments get me every time. "Why go over, when you can go UNDER!" ~ "One day, they will write books about all of this!"

    Clearly the game doesn't take itself seriously, you shouldn't either.

    Nope. Drop onto island, kill everyone, destroy everything, done.

    This one's all about gameplay and I salute the developers for that.
