Every time I press new game, it loads, I hear a cutscene but it stays on the loading screen. 
 
Any ideas?

i would try running the game windowed so that your video mode doesnt change for the cutscene. Cutscenes sometimes have issues that the game itself does not. There may be an option in the config file to turn cutscenes off or alter their quality.
