Overview
Knightmare is a party-based RPG for the Atari ST/Amiga from Mindscape. The player customizes the four members of their group and chases after four treasures to take down Lord Fear. The game relies a lot on puzzles and backtracking presenting discrete dungeons, each with a treasure at the end, and an overworld forest that connects the dungeons together. In order to reach later dungeons, the player must solve the riddles of the tree guardians that block the way by using a specific item on them that matches the solution.
Help is at hand in the form of Treguard the Dungeon Master of Knightmare castle, who appears during the game to help the player via hint orbs. With the Shield of Justice, Sword of Freedom, Cup of Life and Crown of Glory from the game's four core dungeons the player can finally face Lord Fear.
