After hearing Brad say he would love to see the face technology applied to more games I thought "how fucking horrible could that turn out?" So I give you Mario.

As far as I know, the Yakuza series employs some use of facial-capture technology although it's more of a scan then a straight up face-capture. There's an article here in Japanese but it's enough to give you an idea.

Also, I assume we do have a concept for this in the database, right?

    Edit: Concept here.

Something about the faces in this game feels off to me.

I can't really describe what it is, but watching the QL it kinda felt like it was a really detailed texture or something they had put on top of the actual face model, because it felt flat at times...
In some cases it looked amazing, though, but most of the time the faces just looked too smooth or claylike or something...

That doesn't really make sense, but maybe someone will understand what I'm trying to say...

@MaFoLu: I understand what you are saying. The lipsynch is amazing but the facial textures have not caught up to it yet. But I have to say that this is still a breakthrough. Seeing the adams apple move is insane. I cant look at other games that are speech heavy the same again, lol.

I don't know, it does seem wierd at times and is absolutely not needed or appropriate for all games. Obviously, it takes a ton of space and much of the power of the machine is put toward rendering it so... nah. It's just this side of the uncanny valley for me.
