According to a report in Japanese paper Nishi Nippon Shimbun yesterday, Level-5 intend to set up a subsidiary companies in both the U.S & U.K later this year.
The paper refers to the subsidiaries as "software sales companies," suggesting that they won't be responsible for development of games. The paper states a U.S arm will kick off first in the summer, then later on in the year they plan on setting up a company here in the U.K.
Level-5 has a number of other self-published properties that haven't made it out of Japan yet, my guess is that whatever these companies turn out to be, Level 5 will be looking to aid these titles for release for release here.
This Summer, those of us in Europe have the awesome Inazuma Eleven to look forward to, rather aptly during the football World Cup in South Africa. That great RPG-sports-sim should get the ball rolling nicely. But there's also more quality games to come from Level-5 this year in Japan, and one here naturally wonders if the likelihood of these games turning up in the West increases with this news.
One of the titles in question is a joint project with Mother 3 developers Brownie Brown, on a tittle called Fantasy Life, which I happen to think looks entirely awesome both art design and concept. That game will feature music from Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu, There's also another huge project, with the great Anime house Studio Ghibli, on the title known as The Another World. Of course not forgetting a bunch of Layton titles we in the West are well due now.
Here's hoping we get them all, and a lot sooner now with Level-5's increased focus on the West.
