Bioware just announced it at Gamescom. I don't really understand why they'd port the second one but not the first, especially when the decisions and things are such a huge part of the trilogy.
Mass Effect 2
Game » consists of 21 releases. Released Jan 26, 2010
After a violent death by an unknown force and a timely reanimation by the human supremacist organization Cerberus, Commander Shepard must assemble a new squad in the seedier side of the galaxy for a suicide mission in the second installment of the "Mass Effect" trilogy.
Mass Effect 2 comes to PS3
" So how are they going to make things work without the first game? Will you by able to pick the choices you made in the first game or will everyone have to play with Wrex dead? "Chances are sooner or later they will release the 1st one. But for now chances are it will just follow not having a saved game.
As long as Sony doesn't force BioWare to give ME2 (good) exclusive content on PS3 (aside from any extended prologues to address the possible lack of ME1 on the system), I'm fine with this.
This gonna be hell.
Now we'll have fanboys killing each other which version is prettier or plays better.
Mass Effect is a piece of art which should be above this crap.
Bah.

It's not as if ME2 didn't function on the 360 if you didn't have an ME1 save.
I suppose MS had a years exclusivity on it. Maybe they'll have time to expand the prologue or whatever to compensate for the lack of the original. I'm sure there'll be extra content packed in.
I'm happy it's here anyway. It's one franchise i've wanted to try. I might have to see how ME1 fares on my laptop closer to release.
EA have continuously said fuck you to Microsoft with the latest reveals of improved packages sold to the PS3 so that comes as little surprise.
They probably announce a blu-ray package in the likes of what they did for MOH at E3 so a special edition with ME1 included sounds likely.
" @The_Laughing_Man: It's been announced 10 minutes, the internet ain't that bad :P "Well Twitter just died soooo
I was getting ready to post this. Grrrrr lmao
This is awesome news indeed, especially because I only own a PS3 and a Wii.
January 2011 needs to hurry up already.
Im fine with not having mass effect 1 ported as it is kinda obselete in terms of gameplay now that me 2 changed everything. Anyway as long as they give you the option to keep rex alive, Im happy
Awesome news for PS3 owners, tho like others have mentioned the news would be better if included Mass Effect 1 coming over too.
As far as I'm aware, wasn't the first Mass Effect published by Microsoft whereas the second was EA? Surely that explains the lack of the first getting ported as well.
" As far as I'm aware, wasn't the first Mass Effect published by Microsoft whereas the second was EA? Surely that explains the lack of the first getting ported as well. "First was published by both.
" @Abyssfull said:Because one of the major highlight of ME2 is seeing your choices cross over from the original. It would make sense for them to release them both as apart of a pack, instead of just ME2." Is a silly decision. But oh well, more revenue for Mass Effect 3 at least. "Why is it silly? Besides the fact that PS3 owners still can't play ME1. But I guess now more people can revel in the beauty that is ME2. "
I am very happy i will be able to play Mass Effect 2 on the ps3 but what about part1? Apart from that flame wars between fanboys should come to an end after all Bungie and Insomniac are going multiplatform and Xbox fanboys got ff13 and are going to get MGS:Rising. Stop whinning!
Being a massive ME fan and having all my save files from ME1 and 2 on my 360... this doesn't really concern me. But at the same time if you didn't have a PC or 360, this is awesome because it's the best series (IMO) in video games. Well, it won't really be a series for the PS3 because it'll be incomplete, but whatever.
If I had a PS3 only though, I would be pissed because I couldn't see all the cool shit from ME1 and then in turn, the stuff from ME1 that affects ME3. (Like the Rachni, probably the thing I'm most excited for and I was hoping to see in ME2)
Regardless, if you have a PC or a 360 you should get either of those version for the ME1 stuff. This probably won't sell very well because most people who wanted the games have already played them, but it just shows how good Bioware is to it's fans.
Mass Effect 1 is still probably under a exclusivity agreement with MS because it was developed before the EA partnership and the now "timed" exclusive Mass Effect 2 was probably a courtesy arrangement not to piss off MS, that's my guess anyway. Just hope the port to ps3 doesn't take any development efforts from Mass Effect 3.
BTW does anyone know how many teams Bioware have, they are developing a lot o games simultaneous.
" I hope ME1 comes with it. I have both on PC and I don't run it on high, so a PS3 version would be awesome. Then again, I played both to death so I might not get it. YAY "Ugh Microsoft published the first Mass Effect, so the chances of it coming to the PS3 are slim to none.
