People need to relax and don't jump to conclusions so much.  I'm pretty sure Shepard is NOT dead but the rest of the galaxy thinks so.

From the looks of the Cerberus insignia on the teaser site i'd say you'll be going into the Terminus systems to track them down.

Seems pretty obvious that Shepard won't be dead in Mass Effect 2 (or at least not until you're a good deal into the game). It's called a teaser for a reason.

i don't think that shepard is dead, or will be killed, unless it is deep in the storyline perhaps the ending. why would they have the opportunity of transporting your character from the first if they were just going to kill him off? unless it was just to trick you....my mind is all sorts of fucked up right now from that trailer. WHY CAN'T IT COME OUT IN 2009?!?!?!

Super woot.  ME is my favorite game this gen by a landslide.  I can't wait to play this.  I knew this would be the case, but I'm pissed that we can't play as sheppard again.  I was hoping it wouldn't be like KOTOR2 but I knew it would.  Your save game will probably be used for little more than the silly questionaire in the beginning on KOTOR2.

I am now pumped for Mass Effect 2. Hopefully they will make the sidequests less boring than the ones in the first game (considering that the sidequests in ME were about as entertaining as examining lint.)

Why is everyone happy with this teaser? SHEPARD MIGHT BE FUCKIN DEAD. If I can't transfer my level 60 Shepard, I'm gonna be pretty pissed.

the final deep booming note at the end of the trailer that signifies mass effect just sent shivers down my spine. I litterally applauded at the end of mass effect it was so god damn epic!

I think everyone seems to forget that you knocked up (or got knocked up by) another crew member...

Poor BioWare. They just haven't had much luck with cross-compatible saves ("The journey needn't end in Baldur's Gate 2. You will be able to use your character in the upcoming Neverwinter Nights!") That being said, I sincerely doubt they would drop the bomb *this* close to release considering as it is the protagonist we're talking about.

Conversely BioWare know how much people like Shephard because of the personal attachment people have garned for him/her through creating his/her appearance. They've toyed with us before (From the Wreckage!) so I'm pretty confident that this is simply to build up a buzz. ;)

This all being said, the fact that Jennifer Hale (the very talented voice of female Shephard) is signed on to do the second and third games makes me sincerely doubt they'll drop Shephard. ;)

Great teaser. Not that I believe for a second that they killed off Shepard but it still got me pumped for the game. With both this and Dragon Age: Origins coming out within the next 18 months it will be a great time for fans of rpg's.

Why would the Geth kill Shepard? The Geth were following Sovereign and they destroyed him. Maybe the Geth are trying to bring the Reapers back or something... hmmm

Shepard isn't dead. Bioware isn't stupid. They won't give out a freakin plot point in a teaser trailer. Whatever is happening will be explained in the game but I can guarentee it, Shepard isn't dead yet. my wondeful Adept Shepard isn't dead.

I'm willing to roll with it as long as we aren't playing an "Exile" in the new game. :)
