    In video games, microwaves are primarily level dressing, adding authenticity to kitchen-related play areas.  However, some games, such as The Sims, feature usable microwaves to allow a player character to create edible cuisine. 

    A notable video game microwave existed in Maniac Mansion where the player would place a live hamster in a microwave.  Doing this resulted in the hamster exploding.
