Will Modern Warfare 2 for PC be pirated like Spore was?
" It will be pirated like any other game is pirated on the PC. Please be assured though, not all PC gamers pirate their games, some of us do purchase them. "True that.

There's a lot of games that require Steam but have been "cracked" so it works unfortunatly.
" @FlamingHobo said:I've just noticed that Steam seems to slow down a bit of the piracy." Na, since it requires Steam. "Steam doesn't stop piracy...there are plenty of fake steam applications that just have all the games unlocked. A lot of them don't work but some of them do. "
No it will not simply because Modern Warfare 2 does not appeal to the same amount of people who wanted to know what Spore was all about. Everyone was talking about Spore when it was coming out, that game got the hell pimped out of it by both gaming and conventional news outlets and it was something (arguably) new that nowone ever played so everyone was curious about it whereas Modern Warfare is a known quantity and only those who are into FPS games will go after it.
A second point that should be brought up is that Spore's system requirements were pretty low and even semi-dated PCs could play it whereas Modern Warfare will require quite a beefy PC compared to Spore.
That is the biggest problem with PC gaming. Every game is pirated in some form or way. So yes sadly of coarse it will. Will i pirate it? NO! because I'm a console-shooter gamer.
" It will be pirated like any other game is pirated on the PC. Please be assured though, not all PC gamers pirate their games, some of us do purchase them. "so true, DRM. i've been doing research on DRM. sites have shown that people who pirate the game the that had DRM don't have troubles compared to people who have bought the game legally. DRM = people that purchase a game into criminals.
yes, i think that it might be pirated more. all PC games have been pirated. i dont' think it will be like spore but it will be up there. spore was the most pirated game in 08.
" A couple months after CoD4:MW, that fourzerotwo guy said they were amazed at the amount of pirates on PC, and guess what? That didn't have this server browser craziness nor even DRM. IW is fed up with them. "They also had humongous sales from teh PeeCee market so your point is moot.
" @Binman88 said:Heck Steam itself can be cracked so you can download ALL the games for free :/" It will be pirated like any other game is pirated on the PC. Please be assured though, not all PC gamers pirate their games, some of us do purchase them. "True that.

And neither are console players. The thing is, it isn't as easy to pirate on the consoles as it is on the PC.... except with the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast was piss easy to pirate for, all you had to do was burn a disk. Also, least we forget about the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP. So quit making it sound like PC gamers are the only ones who would do this kind of thing." I say yes as PC players arent adverse to doing that stuff. "
Well, it doesn't really matter as long as people don't actually buy it. I say boycott this bitch (the PC version that is), Activision needs to get a hint.
Lol boycott, can anyone remind me of a successful videogame boycott?
Also it won't be pirated as badly as Spore as that was a singleplayer game which you could in theory 'finish' in two days. I believe that short single-player games are more pirated than big multi-player games.
To show I'm an expert on the stuff: Do Steam achievements work on pirated copies? Probably not, or? Since that could be another thing to buy the game. People wanting to show off their gamer tag.
" @FlamingHobo said:There's always some hacker that makes a custom installer for steam-only games so that they dont require or interfere/interact with steam at all." Na, since it requires Steam. "Steam doesn't stop piracy...there are plenty of fake steam applications that just have all the games unlocked. A lot of them don't work but some of them do. "
Of course it will be pirated. Not like those people were going to buy the game anyway though. Ill probably buy it about 3 years down the road when they drop it 10 dollars or steam has a 50% off weekend for it.
" Lol boycott, can anyone remind me of a successful videogame boycott?Well, what other alternative is there? Complaining and buying it? That's just dumb.
Spore was pirated 1.7 million times according to Torrentfreak

Yes, all pirates would choose not to play video games if piracy was not an option... oh wait...
Pirates just need an excuse. For example, here is a quick list of reasons why a pirate would feel like it was okay!
1. The Activision hate will help make them feel justified.
2. The IW hate will help make them feel justified.
3. The $60 cost will help make them feel justified.
4. They will make up complaints about the game to say it is not worth it to feel justified.
And that was only a minute and my E key is jammed so it's hard to type! I doubt those people were going to buy the game before any of the major hate came around, cause like I said, a pirate will find any excuse to steal a game.
I find it pretty hilarious that IW is so worried about people pirating the PC version of MW2 while 360 version of the game is already available on torrent sites a good ten days before the release date.
Supposedly someone found a way to pirate pre fw 1.6 games I believe. Nothing major. Only about a handful of games, like Resistance 1 and pretty much just that.
The number of times pirated versions are downloaded does not equal number of lost sales.
Regardless, Spore, Fallout 3, Crysis are games that have been heavily circulated on torrent sites; yet all these titles still turned a fat profit on the pc platform. This "PC gaming is dying" that some devs fling around is BS.
Back on topic though, I predict Modern Warfare 2 will be pirated just as much as any big title that has been released in the past.
crysis didnt make a "fat profit" on the pc, more like a minor profit. the game was brilliant and deserved to sell way more then it did.
it is true however that the number of times pirated versions are downloaded does not equal number of lost sales. people who dont understand this are quite stupid.

QFT.
I'm not sure if it will be pirated to the point that spore was. The piracy of spore was taken that far because EA failed to mention the ridiculous DRM that came with it (and that it really wasn't worth the amount they were charging).
Will people who have chosen to not to buy it really be that tempted to go out and play it? There choice to stray away from dedicated servers has in truth made me not want to go near that game at all as I don't think that there new system will be all that great(match making systems on console games have done nothing to make me think this will work well).
