Sure it's no Mario Kart but I love games with a lot of customizations and this game has loads. I'm assuming shit unlocks as you gain EXP so I'm hoping for more unlocks.
Overall, it's a solid game and if you can put Mario Kart style levels or CTR levels in this game, I am most def buying this day one like LBP.
ModNation Racers
Game » consists of 9 releases. Released May 25, 2010
ModNation Racers is a racing game using Sony's "Play, Create, Share" mantra -- applied in ModNation Racers as "Race, Create, Share". Like other titles in the series such as LittleBigPlanet, it allows players to customize characters, create their own levels/tracks, and share them online on the PlayStation Network.
Have To Say It...It's Pretty Good
I really don't get what's all the hoopla about Mario Kart. I always had a kinda of 'meh' feeling towards the kart series.
Glad to hear you are enjoying it. I am very much interested in this game so I can't wait to see how it turns out. I already have some crazy ideas for racing tracks down on paper so I'm really excited about making them in the game.
" Seemed slow as hell to load and it crashed when I tried to get into a race. So I'll give it a chance later. "Yeah, I started getting that after 10am. Before that it was working fine and perfectly.

" But it's not better than Final Fantasy XIII, is it?! Anyway, looks alright. "
Nothing beats FF13. ;)
I'm in the Beta and am generally really liking it.
Some impressions though:
- The graphics are quite nice although the framerate dips a bit in odd places (not during game play but in the drivable menus - probably because of background loading).
- The controls feel really nice.
- The weapons seem pretty standard/boring for the genre (compared to Mario Kart, WipEout HD, etc). Also, they seem a little bit unpolished.
- I raced online against 15 (I think) other players and everything was smooth and fun. In the post game I heard a lot of people saying how surprised they were, and how much fun they were having.
- The load time are wickedly long, even between menu areas - hopefully this'll be tuned up before release.
- Creating characters and especially designing cars is really fun.
- There are already quite a few very impressive created maps available online.
In short I've move from apprehensive about this game to excited!
" When I played it over summer the control was a little off, I can't really explain why, just turning seemed to slow. Could be cool I guess "Yea, I noticed that too when I initially started playing. But when you start to use the drifting mechanic and learn how to drift the majority of the course, the race feels a lot faster.
The beta overall has me excited for this game's release now.
I enjoyed the two minutes that I've played of it. But those loading times are horrible. I mean, I know it's a beta but...GOD!
Yeah and lots of people will put that much work in. Little Big Planet has some junk but also has heaps of great, well made and entertaining user generated levels.
Exactly, LBP has 1,000,000 levels, so even if 99% are shit that means - what? - 1,000 levels are awesome. Or 10,000, I dunno. Excuse the maths. You get the point though." @ryanwho:
