The Mortal Kombat series, and its many games, continues to deliver gruesome fighting action to its fans.

Mortal Kombat (2011) was one of the best fighting games I’ve played in a while. It has an amazing story, a good cast of characters, and it seemed to simplify things for the Mortal Kombat series. For those of you who haven’t played the game or for some reason haven’t gotten a clue what the story is in the series, Mortal Kombat is a reboot for the Mortal Kombat Franchise. It’s a retelling of the first three mortal Kombat games, so if there was a fighter you liked that came out in those games, there’s a good chance you see them in this game as a playable character or make a cameo appearance. The only exception is Quan Chi, who made his debut in the 4 game but is playable in this game. The story begins at the end of the Battle of Armageddon, which takes place during Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. The majority of the fighters are deceased and the only ones fighting are: Shao Khan and Raiden. Shao Khan beats the crap out of Raiden and Raiden sends his past self visions of the future and the message “He must win”, right before he is killed by Shao Khan. After Raiden’s death, it shows various events that took place from the previous games until it stops at the time of first Mortal Kombat game. The Raiden from that point in time receives the visions and messages and decides to change the future so the Battle of Armageddon may not take place. During the course of the story mode, you play as 16 different fighters with four or five different fights during each chapter. 1-4 take place during the course of the original Mortal Kombat, 5-11 take place during the second game and 12-16 takes place during the third game. Over the course may events that are suppose to happen do happen, but somethings change too. One big change was a ninja named Smoke was turned into a Cyborg but thanks to Raiden’s medaling, Sub-Zero was turned into a Cyborg. Another was most of the protagonist are killed during a battle against Sindel, Nightwolf having to sacrificing himself to win the fight. During the course of the story Raiden’s medallion cracks indicating if things are changing or not. After travelling to the Neather Realm to make a deal with Quan Chi, he finds it to be a lost cause. Raiden had planned to offer the souls of the fallen fighters from Earth to Quan Chi, but Quan Chi made the deal with Shao Khan. After fighting a few of the deceased Earth Realm fighters, Raiden figures out Shao Khan must win. He leaves to meet up with Shao Khan to surrender but Liu Kang, thinks Raiden has gone mad and fights Raiden. Raiden defeats him by electrocuting him as he charges up an attack to kill Raiden. The end result leaves Liu Kang badly injured. Raiden

then surrenders peacefully to Shao Khan, but Shao Khan decides to kill Raiden. Weird enough the same thing that happens in the beginning of the story happens to this Raiden which causes the Elder Gods to appear since Shao Khan must win through the means or Mortal Kombat. After a long and tough battle, the Elder Gods destroys Shao Khan. Raiden, Sonya, and Johnny Cage take Liu Kang to get healed. After they teleport, Quan Chi appears picking up Shao Khan’s helmet and talks to Shinnok, a fallen elder god. He soon says that soon he will rule both Outworld and Earth Realm.

This leads me to wonder what will happen if they decide to make a sequel to this game. Most of the good guys are killed and are now Quan Chi’s servants, Liu Kang is gravely injured and some of the endings for the fighters show Liu Kang becoming a god and then becoming a tyrant. So this leads me to wonder, if Liu Kang is healed, will he challenge Raiden for the title for god? And what are they going to do with the playable characters? Are they going to be brought back to life or what? What are you guys thought on this? Is Liu Kang destined to become a corrupt god?
