    Heck Yes

The love for the PS1 era is seemingly as strong now as it was back when the PS1 was the most relevant Playstation console and nowadays it's look seems especially popular with the indie horror scene, with so many games being released in that iconic blocky 3D style. But Murder House goes a little further with it's inspirations being Silent Hill, Resident Evil and VHS Tapes. I have to admit, I turned the VHS filters off because hot damn it's Murder on the eyes. They've done the same with the sound but you can't turn the distorted effects off of that, which is my first and last criticism for the game. It's a lot of fun.

In my mind there are two types of horror games, the ones you're meant to have fun with and the all-business ones that are here to remind you that deep down you're a little bitch. Murder House is the former, mostly. All of the characters are so dislikable they could have been in any one of the Friday The 13th movies and the killer is so ridiculous that you'd laugh at it were it not so harrowing in design. The story see's you being the only person with a brain stem in a film crew that have turned up to film a documentary in the abandoned home of a famous serial killer, which is already on par with kicking a hornet's nest, but the documentary isn't spicy enough for the producer so you end up running around in a sheet to add insult to injury in a house that is clearly not abandoned. Like all the horror B-Movies and video nasties, you know something is going to go wrong, the game's called "Murder House" for crying out loud.

When the Easter Ripper makes his first appearance it's decapitating someone and blood goes everywhere, it's just the right amount of excessive, but the game isn't just about big scenes and blood. There's a lingering dread that hangs around in the house as you wait for something to happen, an overwhelming tension, you KNOW something is going to happen, you KNOW the title of the game, but when is it al coming together? And then it does. The PS1 graphics really make the scenes all the more horrific with the basement in the house being the most disturbing area by far. Parts of it are silly and over the top but Murder House knows how to make you revert to little bitch form when the Easter Ripper finally shows up.

The game isn't that long and it's in that 3 hour fun zone where it's not over too quickly and not Alien Isolation, it's really worth a play for it's Resident Evil style gameplay with just enough modern perks and cheesy twists to make it a blast to play.
