Well after hearing all the new game announcements and seeing that MH4 trailer I finally feel like my 3DS isn't a total waste of money. In fact i'm really really looking forward to a lot of those games.

This. It's a rare system that has an extensive library of must-have titles within the first year or so. The DS started off at a snail's pace and then suddenly kicked into gear around the time Advance Wars: Dual Strike was released. The PS2 was largely devoid of big games for a long while, as well. I mean, who here actually bought the system for Fantavision?
