    Overview

Nitro Ball (known in Japan as Gun Ball) is a sci-fi top-down run-and-gun game developed and released by Data East for arcades in 1992.

Reminiscent of Williams's Smash T.V., Nitro Ball is a high-octane run-and-gun game in the top-down perspective with a succession of single-screen areas, set with a "game show" theme. Players control either Gary (red-clad former Navy sergeant) or Harry (blue-clad former police officer) as they fight through five themed arenas for wealth and fame.

It features a strong "pinball machine" theme, with arenas resembling those in pinball machines (including things such as bumpers, spinners, and drop targets) and players being able to transform into a large "pinball" with a power-up in order to bowl through enemies. It includes five levels with different environments ("Strange Football", "Combat Field", "Ghost Town", "Aliens World", and "Space Station").

The game later received a digitally re-release by Flying Tiger Entertainment for the Nintendo Switch on January 3, 2019, as part of the Johnny Turbo's Arcade series.
