The Oculus Rift is a virtual reality headset for the PC released in March 2016.

    Good stuff to try.

So I've got a rift in my house finally and I need recommendations on what to get for it.

ATM I have downloaded a scuba simulation some solar system thing and a crappy "horror game" called affected or something.

All of them are...well, kinda shit. I mean they all work, but they are more like amusement rides or proof of concept tech demos than actual worthwhile experiences.

Anything a bit more impressive/substantial out there? I'd be willing to drop a few bucks.

Hmm, I was about to suggest a few more fun "experiences", but you don't seem too hot on those.

Elite: Dangerous has Rift support (although I haven't tried it yet), and continuing on the theme of space games you can play Strike Suit Zero with it too, and that was okay. Try Half Life 2 if you haven't - I played for 30 mins once and felt extremely nauseous though.

You can use Tridef 3D or vorpX to make any game work with Oculus if you want. I played a bit of Far Cry 3 with it and it was crazy.

There's one that's called like "The Cave" or something. It's more than it looks like. Just download it and play it, avoid looking at any comments or descriptions.

EDIT: looks like it's been better advertised and kind of ruins the surprise up front, but still an impressive demo.

It's not really substantial but it was the most incredibly awesome demo I tried and still worth trying.

You could also hack ArmA 3 to support the Rift if you have a DK1/when the freetrack stuff starts supporting the DK2. The ability to actually look around 1:1 is awesome, and if you have a DK2 it should be playable.

I had a ton of fun playing TF2's Mann Mode or whatever it's called with friends. I just used a 360 controller and aimed with my head and had a ton of fun.

And I've heard good things about HL2.
