Games that can run on shitty laptops?
" Arcanum. Fantastic isometric rpg. "Absolutely...if you can find a copy that is Sunny. The game's riddled with bugs and the company went bust years ago. Thankfully there's a fan-made Unofficial patch that fixes most things. If you don't know what it is, think of it as Fallout 2 but with a steampunk/fantasy setting.

Just things like Assassins Creed, Borderlands, or any this generation game on steam. Back when I played World of Warcraft on this I had some pretty bad frame rate issues, which is why I've been hesitant to try newer games.
" @DanielJW: I'm sure there's better people to ask around GB then me since it's been a while I've done anything very techincal with PCs. I'm not saying no to you of course. At a glance I'll say your laptop's pretty good but more importantly is there any game in particular you want to play? You've got a proper graphics card so that's good (well, I say "proper" as in a good card as opposed to an integrated card). "Actually it is integrated. The only laptops that don't have integrated cards are the super high-end Alienware or maybe Dell laptops. But yeah, it's at least ATI as opposed to some generic card. But I really don't know a whole lot about integrated cards. I mostly just keep up on desktop hardware since I'm planning to build one.
" @Bucketdeth said:I play it on my netbook on lowest settings and still looks pretty great and is awesome as hell, I'd recommend it.scratch warcraft III as it will only work in low settings... And bioshock. Try some classics... there are games out there that are more than worthwhile to play. "" Starcraft, Warcraft 3, Diablo 2. "
The primary reason is your processor. It's just too slow. Half-Life 2 only requires 1.2Ghz as a minimum since that was released about five years ago. By then, games have taken leaps and bounds in graphics and intensity. Assassin's Creed requires 2.6Ghz at least to play it, also the the PC port has horrible PC optimisation. Put it this way. Anything game more intensive then HL2 is a game I wouldn't plan on playing on your laptop. As for Borderlands? That requires 2.4Ghz. 4Ghz too much for your laptop.
" @JJWeatherman: Huh? My $1300 Asus laptop has a GTX 260. That's nonsense. "I'm gonna assume it's really a GTX 260M, which is an integrated mobile version of the GTX 260 proper. the 260M however is only about as powerful as a desktops 9800 GT. That's not bad by any means, but yeah. You can shove all that back in my face if I'm wrong about this, which is possible. :P
I found this article on the internets, and I gotta say it looks grim. Here's a paragraph from it:" @eroticfishcake: Could you help me with stuff that can run on mine? You seem like a tech-savvy individual. System Manufacturer: Acer System Model: Extensa 5420 Processor: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60 (2 CPUs), 2.0GHz Memory: 2814MB RAM Page File: 1410MB used, 4431MB available DirectX Version: DirectX 10 Then the graphics card stuff. @DanielJW: Yeah. Shit. : /
Well you don't need good graphics for a good game. Do you know how to use DOSbox? There's some really old games that you can run on it. Since they're so old, chances are that you could find them free to download off any site. Hell, even Daggerfall is free to download from the Bethesda site!
" @JJWeatherman: It is the same architecture as the 9800 GT (G92B). It is not integrated into the mainboard however, it is a discreet card. It's memory is also clocked about twice as fast, and uses GDDR5 vram. Other than that, yes, it is a laptop card- it is slower and more expensive than it's desktop counterparts; however, I am able to play every game I've thrown at it so far quite respectably (I get about 35-40 fps in Crysis at 1440x900 on high settings). "daaang. Those be good Crysis frames on a lappy. lol
Is "high settings" the max for Crysis, or is there like "ultra" or something like that? Also is that the original Crysis or Warhead? Impressive either way. :P
" @Jeust: Where would one find System Shock 2? "
It's a pretty complex game to run on a modern day OS though. Thankfully, this guide fixes most things. Worked for me. Speaking of which, Deus Ex is a great game you should try.
And Crysis Warhead has 1 setting above High. When I say high, I mean a range of things from very high, to medium, to off, depending on what makes the most difference. For instance, I don't play with antialiasing, but textures and geometry are at very high. Postprocessing is only on high, but particles and volumetrics are very high. I tweaked the configs quite a bit too.
" @DanielJW: How could I ever forget the Thief series? Again, that's not an easy game to get working so this guide will help you if you ever plan on playing them. Personally I prefer Thief 2. "Haha. Well I'm excited now. I got a torrent of System Shock 2 going, and afterwards I'll look around for Thief 2. Is it free as well?
" @DanielJW: Unfortunatly it isn't as Eidos owns it and they're still alive (but not kicking as they've been doing fuck all recently). You could torrent it since it's easy to find but it'll much better to buy a copy. It's not too old so you can probably find a copy of it in your game store for about $5-10. I still see it on the shelves anyway. "Yeah I'll have a look around for it some time this week. :D
Thanks for all your help guys!
