Ok, so deciding on getting a laptop. Gonna use it for gaming and school work mostly, also for when I travel to Barbados during the winter/summer breaks. What do you think of this set up? How long would this probably last me gaming wise until I need a new comp?

    • – Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    • – Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.53 GHz)
    • – 17.0" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050)
    • – 50% OFF 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • – 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
    • – 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • – Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
    • – HP Color Matching Keyboard
    • – Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100AGN and Bluetooth(TM)
    • – Integrated 56K Modem
    • – $100 OFF Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
    • – 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    COST: $1700

Was gonna get the 7200RPM 320 gig hard drive, but that that would be an extra $100 so eff that. Plus I didn't think it would be a HUGE difference in speed... would it?
    So what do you think?

I'd definitely recommend getting that 7200 RPM hard drive, the speed is very important.

You don't need 4 GB of memory, if you need to save money, that's where you can do it.

Very nice laptop for the price, and like xruntime said, 4gb isn`t really recommended, it`s really not needed.

If you want something to last you longer through the gaming-wise, I'd strongly suggest checking out the Gateway P-7811FX laptop.

Whoa, that Gateway laptop is a real bargain! It has just about the same specifications (if not better) as the laptop the TC posted, yet its almost five hundred dollars less.

so, just to make sure, even in a few years I woulden't need 4 gigs? I'm just tryin to make sure that this comp is pretty future proof. Plus if i go for 3 gigs instead of 4 should i keep the 64 bit OS or get the 32?

EDIT: There is a special deal on the RAM, the 4 gig is only $50, so if I switch to 3 gigs and get the 7200 RPM hard drive (which is $100more than the 5400RPM), I would end up paying $50 more.

well ram isn't really an issue with laptops, their so easy to install and get, you can very easierly just get more ram later if u need it... as for 64bit os compared with 32, apart from being able to see more ram with 64bit versions, i dont really know if theres any other differences between the two, but i've never used at 64bit OS so i wouldn't really know myself personally... i suppose i would get the 64bit os if i could i guess...

Business and Manufacturer discounts, but then again you may need a connection to one; which I'm assuming you don't have. Research a bit more and you still could find a cheaper price out there.

Tearhead, have you looked at that gateway laptop? It has slightly worse specs but you save over $400.

Yea, I looked at it. I'll consider it.
