The PC (Personal Computer) is a highly configurable and upgradable gaming platform that, among home systems, sports the widest variety of control methods, largest library of games, and cutting edge graphics and sound capabilities.
I am currently running a GTX 1070 rig with an intel core I5 4690K processor and was thinking of upgrading that CPU. Is there any option out there that is currently worth making the purchase?
What do you want a new CPU to do that your 4690k currently isn't capable of? You're looking at a marginal performance increase in a few games if you go to an i7, otherwise you'll need a new motherboard. You probably don't need to upgrade though, the 4690k is fine.
Like Mike said, you will see almost no performance increase if you up grade. So unless you want to encode video, don't worry about it. Look into a higher resolution monitor or something if you have the upgrade itch.
Yeah, you probably don't need a new CPU. If you haven't done so already, you could pick up an aftermarket cooler and overclock; your 4690K will more than likely reach at least 4.2 GHz with a minimal voltage adjustment, which should be more than enough to remove any potential CPU bottlenecks.
