@Godwind: man that is some list you got there !

I did not see Okami on your list maybe you already have it but if you don't the game is a freaking masterpiece and I highly recommend you to play it.
Dark cloud 2 is also amazing and everyone should at least play one of the Jak & Dexter games.
The  Kingdom heart games kept me hooked the whole  time I was playing them so yeah get that.
Metal gear 3 is also great and fills in a little back story for Big boss.
And Shadow of the colossus is also great.

It's funny you would mention this. My brother just went from a PS1 to a Wii, not much of a gamer if ask me, and asked me if he should buy a PS2. I said, Hell fucking yeah.

Wow wow weewa. That's some list. I'd say to try and play every game on there. They're all good games. So you know, I still play Shadow of the Colossus and Twisted Metal: Black once a year. Great games. Fantastic games.

I've only played a few games on PS2 but  #9 on AgentJ's list: FFXII is a really awesome game, better than XIII IMO.

One of my favourite PS2 games is "The Red Star" which I believe is based off a comic book. Its a cross between a shooter (SHMUP) and a brawler with some really fun boss patterns.

If you like JRPGs then you owe it to yourself to try Rogue Galaxy.  Interesting story, real-time combat, and unlike other jrpgs, the english voice acting is good.

Onimusha 2 and 3 are two of the finest games on the system.  Whatever the fourth Onimusha game is called, Dawn of Dreams I think, that one can be avoided.  The first is also good but the controls seem really strange now.

Final Fantasy XII, I know it gets a lot of flack for the Gambit system but you only have to use as much of it as you want to.  I actually liked the combination of turn based and real time battles and even though the story wasn't as good as some I liked the older characters than most FF games and the turn toward a more mature story.

Definitely Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. My two favorite games for the PS2.

Twisted Metal: Black is awesome. Silent Hill 2 was probably the scariest game I've ever played. I also enjoyed Armored Core 2.

Dead or Alive is fucking garbage. Only good if you think creepy hentai value is more important than actual gameplay. Get a Tekken Tag or KOF2002: Unlimited Match instead. Hell, even crappy MK Armageddon shines in comparison to Dead or Alive 2.

I suggest you also get We Love Katamari and Timesplitters Future Perfect.

God Hand is one of the best games ever made. And if you don't like Resident Evil 4, then you obviously don't like video games period. I hate the original Resident Evil games but 4 blew my mind.

I don't either. Except Resident Evil 4. I don't much care for the first, second, third and fifth games, but dude, Resident Evil 4 is a fucking masterpiece. If you haven't played it yet, you need to give it a shot. Oh, and make sure to get the Wii version. The controls are sublime.

I would highly recommend Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, provided you have some experience with RPG's.  It can be very difficult, but it's also a really unique game that is definitely worth a try for any RPG fan.

God Hand is probably a good game but man that camera, and also I suck at it. As far as things that haven't been mentioned, I really dug the customization craziness in Front Mission 4, even if the accuracy thing is totally broken it takes like 2 missions to get used to then its not a problem. Kessen 3 is really solid and probably the most cinematic and ambitious game Koei's ever attempted.
PS Rogue Galaxy is just awful. Mindlessly navigate identical corridors while the patchwork story that seems to be making shit up as it goes along plays out. You can skip that. Level 5's lowest moment.

@Axxol: Yeah, but if he has a Wii that is the console to get it for. Or the gamecube if he doesn't want motion controls.

The PS2 version is the second worst (right ahead of the dreadful PC version).

Rise to Honor and Max Payne are still great games (though you would be better off with any other version of Max Payne). I actually only played Rise to Honor 8 months ago, It has stood up really well. The combat system is really well done, and the atmosphere rules.

It's a third person shooter with very cool physics and a pretty fun little sandbox arena to go along with the rather linear story missions.

It's still a great game. But the GCN and Wii versions are both superior. The GCN version looks and controls better than the PS2. The Wii version
feature those awesome motion controls, and also has the little bit of extra content that was made for the PS2.
