So I finally gave in and bought a PS3 the exclusives and Blu Ray Player proved too much to live without. What do you guys consider to be the essential titles for any brand new members of the PS3 club?

Heavy Rain (when it comes out)

For me, first or foremost a PS3.

MGS4 will be a lot more enjoyable if you've played the other games, seeing as they're built around the story. It's still an awesome game though.

The mainstream essentials that I've played and loved are Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, and inFamous off the top of the head. 
 
If you like niche shit that is really damn gewd (which I like even better than the above), then I recommend Valkyria Chronicles and Disgaea 3.

Well that explains why there is over 1,000,000 user created LBP levels, people must think it's time has passed. Hey wait a minute...aren't people STILL creating tons of levels? And isn't there still being DLC released because the community is booming? "

My answer to this question is diffrent from most peoples answer (the correct answer you might say) because Id say get you r "Tentpole" titles. I havent got all of mine yet but there are certain games which are just tied to the PS3 name for me. Not to say they are actually good games but games like Lair are tied to the PS3 for me because they were shown so heavily (in this case specifically with the sixaxis) before the launch so I need to get them. For me, and it will probably be diffrent for most people, these tentpole games (excluding actually good games like MGS4, Uncharted 2 etc.) are:

Genji: Days of the Blade (Historically Accurate Battles...Giant Enemy Crab!)

Haze (That game is so terrible but it was marketed so heavily, had so many previews before launch and annoyingly had some interested ideas but its tied to the PS3 name sadly)

Heavenly Sword (Again heavily marketed to show off the graphical power of the PS3 and the fact it was made by Andy Serkus and some impressive Motion Tracking but actually a really good game if a bit simple)

There are some other games, and each person will diffrent, but there are a bunch of games (most of them absolute crap) that are so much integrated with the concept of PS3 that I must own them for better or for worse.

Why do people say "skip Uncharted 1"? Are you crazy? This is a fantastic game. And there are lots of people still playing LBP!

god of war collection. the graphics are a little upgraded, it has trophy support, it comes with god of war 3 demo to unload. it is good for me as i never played 2 before. it will be nice refreshing. i played 1 already i'm just getting the trophies.

That's why I have it as number 4. Uncharted 2 just feels so much like Gears of War, even though it is a good game. Even Brad said so in is review. "

completely disagree with that list, personally wasn't a huge fan of LBP but eh it doesn't suite to everyone I suppose.
 
MGS4, inFAMOUS, Uncharted, Uncharted 2 and Valkyria Chronicles. Demon's Souls if you like Action RPGs and want a challenge.

Having just got a PS3 myself I fully recommend Uncharted and Uncharted 2. Really enjoying Ratchet and Clank: Tools of destruction and Heavenly Sword (Which I know got a luke warm reception at release) as well.

People are recommending games that aren't even out yet? Damn, some hype trains really work!
