If they decrease production cost for the Vita enough by the time the PS4 launches, they might opt to mirror Nintendo by turning the PS Vita into PS4's standard controller. Unless the PS4 tanks, it would pretty much ensure the success of PS Vita, ontop of being a superawesome high tech gamepad and standout gimmick.

What do you think? In the realm of feasibility?

    Selling a $250 controller?

That's business terms for "Let's bring this fuckin' thing down hard!"

Does one pay £220 for a controller though? I mean you say they might drop the cost, but even still, say they somehow get it past the 99 dollar/euro/pound mark, who's buying that controller? I think it could happen, but it's very unlikely. I do think it'll work somehow with the PS4 though.

It's a nice idea, but like the previous post says: it's just going to be too expensive to become the standard controller. It would be a repeat of 599 US dollars (at least).

It might be an option but I doubt it'd be standard.

Didn't the PSP work as a sort of controller for navigating the menus or something, i gave mine away a couple years before i had a PS3 so i don't quite remember exactly what connectivity the PS3 and PSP had.

You could use it as a rear view mirror for F1 2006. I think that's the only game that used it.

I don't think this is realistic or reasonable at all. I'd be surprised if the price goes down by more than $100 in two years, and I can't see enough people buying a $150 controller.

My hope is that PS4 should continue to support the Dual Shock 3 and Move hardware (perhaps with an improved eye... if it ships with one). Gamepad layouts have been more or less static since the original Dual Shock and since robust wireless was added this generation there isn't a pressing need to update either the 360 or PS3 controllers.

This. Make the basic question your title when asking the community a question. News headlines should be reserved for actual news.

I think this move would be precisely the thing that makes the PS4 tank.

As cool as it could be, the cost would be too big of a barrier to entry.

I wonder how far they'd be able to strip the Vita to make it viable as standard controller for the PS4? Remove all ports except phone jacks and usb? Maybe leave that proprietary memory card slot to make money with accessories sales? Lower quality touchscreen?

I think they'd be able to get away with it if they'd manage to get a stripped down Vita SKU to sell for 99$ as their PS4 standard gamepad. Would indeed be crazy. Crazy awesome.

I dunno. I think games companies should be focusing less on peripherals and gimmicks to sell their stuff. The ideas are generally cool, but the software is rarely ever halfway decent.

Yeah doesn't seem like something for me. Though if the whole package console and controller was 250-300$, it would certainly have appeal. What's being proposed here is taking what's gotta be an at least 400$ console and tacking on a 250$ handheld as the controller.

@MikkaQ: I agree, the whole PS4 with vita controller is complete insanity as only insane people would pay $1000 for a game box with glorified ipod controller.

The Wii-U will essentially be in line with the PS3 and 360 in terms of power, and wont even get a good portion of the best current gen games anyway. To be honest I don't see devs going out of their way to make Wii-U focused experiences and nintendo only has so many teams to make zelda, mario & wii sports, so then what becomes of that whole concept?..

Also, if they call it the 'Playstation 4' they've pretty much become square-enix.

The vita isn't even shaped like a controller. I think it would be uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time, especially for those with larger hands.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Either this was a lapse in judgment or a clever attempt to get more people to read the topic. Not cool.
