POD: Planet of Death
Planet of Death is quite possibly one of the greatest sci-fi apocalyptic racing games of all time. Why? you ask, because it has brilliant physics, it is a pure racing game (no weapons) and it has a good storyline.
Graphics:
The graphics were designed for the Intel MMX processors, so they were good for its time. A version called POD 2.0 was released that had support for Matrox,S3 Virge,3Dfx Voodoo and the ATI rage. The 3Dfx version is by far the best, so if you have this game, use a 3Dfx emulator (or the original card). The graphics were awesome for its time though, so I give it a 8/10 for graphics.
Gameplay:
The gameplay is pretty good too. The Physics are perfect, you slow down going up hills and you speed up going down. The collisions are more realistic as well; when someone smashes into the back of you, you shoot forwards depending on their speed and your speed. The ramps on some tracks can also slow you down, but you can land on top of other cars and smash them out of the way.If the acekration is too high then you can drift all over the place on some tracks, whereas on others you go up walls! The gameplay is very good and very fun, so I give it a 10/10.
Controls:
Controls are nice and simple: arrow keys to move, and A and Z to change gears if you set it to manual (there is an option for automatic transmission). The controls are simplistic and easy to learn and they help me concentrate on the game and not look where my fingers are. I give them a 9/10.
Total score: 27/30
This is a good game and I would recomend it to anybody who is tired of the new racing games. You can buy it from Good old Games.
