As a rule of thumb, any etymology that claims a word originated as an acronym is usually invented. "Posh" does not come from "port out, starboard home"; "f***" does not come from "for unlawful carnal knowledge; and "SOS" does not come from "save our ship." As for "chav," this author claims it comes from the Romany word "chavi" meaning "child."
Some fascinating trivia: The word "its" is a relatively recent addition to the English language, becoming common only in the 17th century. The word does not occur a single time in the King James Bible.
