@ahifi: Well... let's put it this way: Jeff and especially Dan starting this project in addition to Gaiden the Ring has made me subscribe to New Japan World.

Now... can someone tell me where I should start?

Hah! Yeah. Wrestle Kingdoms aren't a bad place to start, I guess? Due to NJPW not really having the whole anodyne 'PPV' format (which streamlines the 'catch-up' process), it's hard to say what is/isn't worth watching. I imagine there are lists on SquaredCircle and such.

Sakura Genesis just happened on Sunday, so I think watching Wrestle Kingdom 12, Strong Style Evolved and Sakura Genesis should get you up to speed on the current roster/stories without costing you too much time!

I somewhat checked out whilst watching these episodes, apart from the story parts.

These 5 episodes represent the DBZ that I perceived that I was happily avoiding many years ago - lots of people fighting, lights flashing everywhere, and occasional tough guy quips.

It just feels like filler (however, I can only imagine that it's but a snippet compared to the original DBZ anime's filler episodes).

I am way more into the story, the character interactions (when not fighting) and the talking parts - which I was not expecting to enjoy nor be so engaging.

Actually, you could replace references to my feelings on DBZ/anime above with my feelings on WWE/wrestling, and it would also work.

Still, it wasn't bad. I just feel this wasn't the right way to introduce the all-powerful Frieza. He seems weak compared to the hype.

Would it have been better if it was booked for his 'final' form to be 'unlocked' by Goku, and Goku alone?

But I guess they don't want to bury Piccolo, Vegeta, Gohan and Krillin.

'Booked'.

'Bury'.

And Jeff just mentioned 'Fuji Dust'.

So based on that really small cross-section, are DBZ fans also generally WWE fans?

I just found some DBZ/WWE literature which may provide some academic insight:

It was another Monday night and Goku was having fun with the WWE Universe at WWE Monday Night Raw. "How you doing tonight, WWE Universe?" Goku asked, standing in the middle of the ring as the crowd cheered.

...

"Oh, it will be just one against the two of you," Goku grinned. "Ready, John?"

John Cena nodded. "FUUUUUUSION HAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!" In a brilliant flash of light, Goku and John Cena did the perfect fusion.

...

"I guess when we fuse together, we're TOO powerful," Goku said.

"Yeah, we're best just teaming up like normal," John Cena laughed. "Wanna get some milkshakes?"

"Sounds great, John." And Goku and John Cena left and got some milkshakes.

P.S. Love the music! I sing it all week (to the annoyance of my partner). I think I read that all the voice actors did versions which is why the singers are changing every 15-20 episodes.

For the desk of Commander/General/Whatever @vinny:

We, the members of the Extraterrestrial Combat Unit Support Union for Combat Killer Squads, have decided - in the wake of recent events - to offer you a simple weekly reminder of previously discussed combat strategies.

As you are well aware, these strategies were recommended and signed off by all Base Commanders for regular usage to ensure the safety of X-COM operatives. However, a recent spate of grevious and fatal injuries involving union members has left us concerned (and not to mention short on our monthly membership payments).

Henceforth, from today, we will provide you with one weekly reminder of a single combat strategy - from the list of 995 - that will help keep everyone under the X-COM umbrella safe and secure (both physically and financially).

This week's reminder:

Strategy #405: Use quiet moments on the battlefield to reload your full squad, rather than sending one or two soldiers into an advanced, potentially compromised, position.

Please thank the commanders in advance for their co-operation.

Signed,

Barley Snotgrass

X-COM

Department of SU-CKS

Yup, I think that's correct.

*in the voice of Bradford* This is definitely far from over people... it's not just about winning and losing battles, it's about how much is gained and lost from those battles.

I can see why some people get a little snarky about Vinny's level of input. After a certain point, if it's basically Vinny's playthrough, there's no real point to the rotating players. When the feature started, there seemed to be more jeopardy where a certain player could mess things up due to unaligned skill levels and intentions. Now that Vinny's blatantly driving from the backseat, it's a little... bland.

I'm still enjoying watching, but I do feel like there's some potential in this feature going to waste.

Very true, but then Vinny is no expert. He was making some bad calls in this one too. Besides, I think they need a mitigating force or else the game would go absolutely sideways at breakneck speed.

I mean, let's face it: an unsupervised Dan would be responsible for the complete loss of humanity.

In fact, I'd go as far to say that without Vinny, this playthrough would have been over by now.

It's good that Abby pulled through it and all - especially given how tentative and stressed out she was at the start. Good job!

But, as aforementioned, bad to have lost both Swery and Suda... I mean, Suda - okay; but Swery was the one and only medic.

He's a major loss and unfortunately his death was pretty unnecessary and could be sourced back to one bad move into a flanked position when there was full cover available.

It's really hard for the team as I don't think they have fully experienced the truly sadistic nature of this game. So far, it has been viewed as very binary: wins and losses. But I think if you spend a lot of hours with it, and do multiple playthroughs, you begin to understand that every win soon becomes a Pyrrhic victory.

Even a wounded soldier at the wrong time can be devastating.

The game is often about the accumulation of micro-losses that eventually tip a playthrough over the edge.

For example, losing Swery could totally be one of those tipping points.

But, at the same time, we could also look to Zhang being without his major weapons as a contributor to Suda and Swery's death.

If Zhang had his regular firepower, it could have changed everything. But what could Abby have done about that? How was she to know?

Micro-losses, micro-mistakes and timing factors into everything. It's a hellavu game - to the point that I kinda feel it almost (almost...) transcends the word 'game'. I'd say it's more like an interactive teaching aid on cause and effect.

Anyway, I just wanted to preemptively remind my fellow viewers that we should blame EVERYONE on the team IF that major loss happens. This is a team game. ;)

But enough of that negative chat: I believe in Team Beast - and I believe they are going to prevail.

This is gonna get tense!

Couldn't stand the characters (and that loop...), but it's good to see a game focusing on queer, non-white stories and experiences get featured.

The free (with optional payments) approach appears to have helped both it and Doki Doki Literature Club reach wider audiences.

Anyway, I feel like these videos have been a bit too long, and (admittedly) have required more attention than I want to give, but they've at least been different from the rest of the content on the site.

I am interested in Rose of Winter and more interested in Dream Daddy now.

Ben and Abby have a great chemistry though, and I hope we'll see more of that in new content ideas.

You know, I totally wasn't into the voices for about 15 minutes but... Something clicked. I now feel compelled to try Dream Daddy after enjoying it in a way that the Quick Look never achieved. And I have to play as Bebby obviously...

I can just about deal with the uber masculinity, but I'm not sure I can deal with creepy sexism. Does it continue? Or has a Kai served as a mechanism for them to remove some of that dubious stuff that isn't okay by today's societal standards (even though it was never okay)?

I don't want to go through all of this knowing I'm going to end up getting pissed off.

I ask because I looked up some stuff and... Master Roshi seems to grab another character's tits. However I'm not sure if it's original series or Kai.

I mean, these first 3 episodes were alright to watch - and its influence is obviously undeniable - but it's not THAT good to me that I'd be willing to put up with the likes of consistent 'coping a feel' jokes on poor Bulma's part(s).

And certainly not literal rapey fondling.
