Still doing my homework (listening to the album), and I really don't think the world asked for another Puddle of Mudd making the musical version of Martha Is Dead. I'm actually finding some measure of solace in the Vrbo ads between each song, that's the type of time I'm having.
EDIT: 100% agree with Emily that this is something that should probably have been kept in the vault. As a cathartic exercise in a really difficult time in his life, it could have been a step to a much better album. Also agree this album badly needed a drummer to flesh it out more. Good discussion!

My favorite running topic across all of GB is hooliganism, and this has been a banner week for it. Particularly Jan’s brick and Jeff’s trespassing stories.
@bludgeonparagon: Based on the time outlined for Elder Scrolls 6 on a recent ‘Snax, this game has to be 5 years away at the absolute minimum, right? I’m very curious what a new Fallout game looks like more than a decade after the last single-player entry. Is it going to be a launch game for a new console generation? I’m getting gamer vertigo just thinking about it.
Now that I've watched it, I think this is my favorite episode so far. The discussion about music, irony, and nostalgia is the most thoughtful thing I've listened to this year. I became aware of this album around 5 years ago thanks to the now-defunct (and delisted) "The Smell of Music" podcast, and while they were definitely more on the ironic/dunking side of things, they made sure to dig deeply into the circumstances under which the album was made.
On those circumstances: I think that's why I've always felt uncomfortable both with people who dunk on the album and with people who celebrate it. This crew kept a good balance of highlighting aspects of it while never forgetting the sisters' humanity, the latter of which often gets left out of Shaggs discussions. It's similar to my own feelings on video games made under abusive circumstances, where some hit a level (most recently, ABK) where I can no longer separate those conditions from the art that's produced. The idea that people want the surviving Shaggs to perform the music like it's 1968 is weird and upsetting to me.
In short (too late), thanks for the episode, and thank you for giving me more information on why Kurt Cobain sucks.
I really liked seeing Jeff G's impression of the game slowly change throughout the recording of this video. It's really exciting to watch people come away with a more positive opinion of a game just by talking about it and swapping experiences. Great discussion, gang.
Also, I will never get tired of Jeff G reacting to someone playing a FromSoft game and getting their shit caved in. The part where Jan got shot off his horse reminded me of "Ben surprisingly gets parried to death in Sekiro" from a few years back. I can't wait to get absolutely wrecked so I can save a clip and send it to my friends.
I won't be able to get to this episode until tomorrow in all likelihood, but I want to say this up front: Rest In Piss, Austin Wiggin, for a variety of reasons.
Good review! I played Ruby and Shield before this one within the last couple years, and I ended up bouncing off both before I got halfway through. Even Shield felt extremely similar to the original formula, in a way that makes this game even more startling. The best thing I can say about this game is I’m having more fun than I can remember having with a Pokémon game in a long, long time.
I do agree on its shortcomings, and I have to imagine it’s because the Switch is old. I’m playing on a Switch Lite, so grain of salt and all that, but I can’t help thinking every hour or so how I would really love for this game to be on something more modern.
