I used to be a heavy collector, any game, no matter if it was good or bad, gets to stay on my shelf... then I started using Gamefly, and my wallet rejoiced, but I have kept some of the games through GameFly.
I'm always hitting up the single-player first. I like to learn a bit about the game before I throw myself to the wolves in multiplayer, well that's if I end up wanting to attempt some multi-player action.
I've had both sides of the spectrum with Amazon. Its all about the shipping for Amazon. You do the free shipping with orders of $25 or more and they will make sure that your package gets as little love as possible. Sure there's a good chance that it will get to you, but you'll be left wondering for quite awhile.
As for Amazon's inventory, as they've expanded and made deals with other places their quality and quantity has actually gone down. I understand that they now allow users to re-sell items and what not, but I feel like if that's the case I'm going to go elsewhere online where I can get a new copy of the game, and I don't have to worry as much about how the disc was treated before I got my hands on it.
Sadly I still do the free shipping methods, and get my heart crushed by how slow they move to get items together, but I've also learned to buy only what I need to from them, and get everything else from different sites.
First off there are still some games coming out for the PS2 because let's face it the PS3 still hasn't caught the full attention of some of the publishers out there. As for what your friend should get, if he wants a blu-ray player that also plays games get the PS3. If he wants the 360 I'd say wait a year. If he is dying to get the PS4, I'd say you've got a while to wait, and when it comes out make sure that Sony doesn't shoot themselves in the foot again and leave your friend crying because he tried to buy the release version of the console.
I have to agree that it is disappointing that they didn't cover Scribblenauts, but at the same time as so many people have stated they are only 3 guys at E3 and its hard to see and/or play all the games that are available. I'm sure we'll hear a lot about this game when it comes closer to release, so I don't have too many worries.
