@naeemthm: I don't think it's over rated, but it can definitely be hard to get into or stick with.
It's funny because describing it as a chore is how I felt about MGSV. Way too much repetition. Sometimes an open world can be fun to just fuck around in (Red Faction Guerrilla anyone?) but that doesn't carry much weight with me. But hey, to each their own.
@bugbarbecue: I made a similar comment in another thread. The combat in any game can be boring and repetitive if you don't play at a difficulty level that challenges you. At least it made the cut.
Dan calling AC's controls complicated, when he has continually championed old MGS controls, is kind of befuddling. Seems like a scenario where, had he a little more interest in the series, he'd have no trouble learning them.
Wouldn't be the first time Dan criticizes a feature in one game and then praises it in a game he loves. He think the side quests in Witcher 3 were boring and repetitive (which baffles me but whatever - opinions) but has no issue with the mission structure of MGSV. That's just Dan I guess.
