@CptBedlam: I would say the animator should work closely with the game designer and the person implementing the animations into the game( If you're not implementing your own animations already).
None of the animations are mo-capped. It's all made from scratch. I did most of it except the ones that had talking lines. We had other awesome animators helping out.
