@fredchuckdave: I really, really enjoyed the community aspect with everyone figuring stuff out as they went along, I'd imagine it's how folks felt when they were first playing through Fez when it first came out. I remember having 3 of my friends round the weekend it was released and I played it for about 8 hours straight while they strategized and cheered me on through the undead burg and all that. Super, super fun time.

Giant Bomb's Game of the Year 2012 is free this weekend and currently 75% off. It's an all round fantastic game and if you really hammered it you could probably finish it before it's no longer free if you wanted to, though the devs are friends of the site and I'm sure they'd appreciate the sale if you enjoy it :)

I find it hard to believe there is "Barely any endgame other than catching Mewtwo and the Z legendary" sounds like a whole load of bullshit to me. There's been roaming legendaries, battle towers, dungeons, routes, cities, rematches, minigames, online modes and all sorts of extra shit to do for generations now, and that's not counting the insane number of pokemon there are in the game now to catch.

Are there any games that were subscription based that went free to play successfully? Off the top of my head I can't recall any.

The only way these movies work is if they take themselves extremely seriously or make it as dumb as possible and this seems to be one of those.
