I've had a great relationship with my mom so I can't really sympathize with you.
I know I'm probably the 50th person to have a bit of a go at you but locking you out in the rain is just a silly occurring when you realize there are moms fathoms worse than what you could even comprehend. All she want's you to do is the dishes. Be glad she doesn't throw empty liquor bottles at you. And perhaps she is a bit ill-tempered; you're still her kid so maybe if you applied the honey instead of the vinegar you'd get some different reactions out of her.
It's pretty difficult. I usually have to set 2-3 alarms on my phone before I wake up. I can think of several occasions where my body has pretty much turned off all of my phones alarms while my mind was pretty much still asleep.
There's alot of "Out of the house after college!" type mentalities that penetrate media, but honestly alot of hard working students still have their parent's support for shelter or financially. As long as you are actually working hard to establish yourself education & financial wise and not just lazily drifting from job to job, I'm sure your parent's would be more than happy to accommodate (especially if you contribute around the house outside of monetarily). Hell, they've been doing it for almost 20 years, what's a few more for their kid?
