@rsawyer757: Because Musk clearly wasn't interested in helping the kids. He was interested in publicity. No one wanted his sub, which was called impractical for this rescue operation. So he took the sub to Thailand anyways and just left it there. If he wanted to really help, why didn't he start working on the sub before rescue operations were already underway?
@turambar: Allow me to clarify. Writing is an art and a craft that is technical. What I meant was that I see this as different from someone saying, "You could add multiplayer in two days/weeks/etc.!" Also, writers are game devs, too.
What I meant was more along the lines of...I disagree with the notion that one must be a writer to talk about the writing in a work of art. You don't have to be a developer to discuss a video game, or a director to discuss a movie, or a musician to discuss a song. That was how I interpreted her tweets, and I did not interpret his as telling her HOW to do her job.
I suspect this thread will be locked by the time I finish listening to the podcast.
All I have to say for now is that it's possible for more than one person to be in the wrong on something here, and assuming that a person doesn't have valuable feedback regarding non-technical aspects of art (like the story) because they're not a writer is elitist as fuck.
There's some confusion here, and it seems to be entirely yours. Dave Chappelle doesn't tell jokes based on just repeating lazy, hack stereotypes. People who make comedy out of bigotry, actual good comedy, expose things about society that creates that bigotry, they don't just contribute to it.
I just want to highlight this. Well said. Exactly this. I think that there can be legitimate discussion over whether or not a particular joke can be interpreted whichever way. Comedy is subject to interpretation just like any other art. That said, I think it is frequently--not always, but frequently--obvious when someone is making jokes because they think it's funny to make fun of people for stuff like that.
@stradalemc: I remember a video from 2016 where the police were called because some kids were being too loud while playing basketball in the street. So they show up, it's not a big deal. Officer plays with the kids a bit. A few days later, the police show up again for a rematch...and Shaq is with them. They play some basketball, and Shaq gives the kids some nice shoes.
