After looking at this list the biggest take away I get is that not only have I fully left consoles, but I played alot of hand held games. Based solely on time, my console of the year is the 3DS. I probably put hundreds of hours into the 3DS over the course of 2013.
Finally got into the beta a couple weeks ago and it is as great as everyone says. The polish in this game is so high that it is surprising it is still only in beta. I guess the game isn't technically out yet but it is still my number one game of the year and one of the few on this list I will be playing into next year.
I loved the original BioShock and I feel like this is a proper successor to it. The story is great and the visuals are stunning. I know the ending can be polarizing but it was something I understood so it blew me away. One of the few games I cared what other people's take on the story was. I found it very interesting to see what other people got out of the ending of this.
I put so many hours into this game. It is just the highest quality Pokemon game yet, and the first I've played in several years. Great reason to come back to the franchise.
I'm a sucker for third person action games. Assassin's Creed, Devil May Cry, and Uncharted are some of my favorite games and this one is up there with one of the best in the genre. I really enjoyed Lara's arc that she went through throughout the game and I felt that the game-play was sharp and fun.
This is a game I really didn't expect to enjoy as much as I day. I've never really played a game like this and it was really special. I hope to convince my wife to play it this coming year.
Very strong jrpg. Fun and challenging. Didn't finish it but I put a couple dozen hours into it so I know what I think of it.
I played this along with my wife and it was a great gaming experience for us. I really felt like this was a game that challenged both of us and was a game that would have been very difficult for us to play on our own. I'm going to try other similar games on the iPad for us to play together now.
I've never really played Minecraft or Terraria so this is my first time playing something like it. It was a very enjoyable experience and a very relaxing experience. The best thing about it is the music. Probably my favorite music of the year.
Another strong jrpg on the 3DS. I've been a fan of strategy rpgs since Disgaea and FF Tactics and this is another strong addition to the genre and one I plan on replaying this coming year.
I kickstarted this so I played it pretty early in the year. It was a fun and made for short play sessions. I plan on getting it for the Vita.
