Did any of y'all "grow up" on Chiodos/Circa Survive?

I first got introduced to Chiodos and Circa Survive in high-school. Probably like freshman year. Since then, there have been so many solidly fucking-good collaborations. E.g. The Sounds of Animals Fighting, Saosin, D.R.U.G.S., In Fear and Faith, etc. Each of them have had their ups and downs. And they always seemed to roll in my thoughts/collection time and time again, all these years.

Craig Owens went back to Chiodos last year, and released their sappy-cool video. That new-singer got kicked out or some shit, and fans welcomed back Craig with open arms. I looked now, and their new album is now supposed to be coming out like next year.. Shit, I thought it was supposed to be this year.. And they recently announced that they've signed on to Razor & Tie, rather than Equal Vision. In order to get myself ready, I'm buying All's Well That Ends Well again. 'Just to make sure I have that album, no matter what happens to the new album. I'm buying it digitally this time rather than getting it from the CD, ripping it, and then having it sound sub-par in my ears. And by now its scratched. I have a Xbox Music subscription, but that bitrate is just not the same..

Anywho, I did end up liking Craig's Με την αγάπη (With Love) album. I didn't like Cinematic Sunrise much. I loved Isles and Glaciers stuff. And I seperately loved what he did with Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows. Meanwhile, I hated Chiodos' Illuminaudio a bit much.. It was sounded too Christian-Rockish, I thought.. I just couldn't put my finger on it. And I have seen Circa and Chiodos a couple of times, both at local shows and Vans Warped Tour.

Anyway, do y'all like Chiodos/Circa Survive any? I still think they travel hand-in-hand in conversations. Maybe.

Oh, Circa. Uhm, Juturna is still my favorite to throw on. On Letting Go is fucking fun and fast. And I like what they did with Blue Sky Noise. I didn't like Violent Waves too much. And Appendage was alright; sounds like Juturna a bit. I like Portugal. The Man a bit, here and there. I think Anthony Green had them on one his songs, I guess?. And you might like Tides of Man, if you like Circa.

A Circa story: I went to go see them one Halloween night, and the band was dressed up. Anthony was dressed like a giant baby, and my friend said he touched his shirt. And he said that he smelled like he hadn't bathed in weeks.

I had heard of them in high school. It's been a while, but I remember thinking they sounded like a rip-off of Atreyu or Killswitch Engage.

@blu3v3nom07:

Saw Circa Survive back in March with Now, Now and Minus The Bear. N,N and MTB were fantastic but Anthony was sick and thus CS was (understandably) not great. No energy. Was a shame because they were the reason I went in the first place, since Anthony is one of my favorite vocalists. Took my friend with my because it was around his birthday, he came away loving N,N and MTB but he thought CS was terrible.

Chiodos is pretty ok.

Juturna and the first Saosin EP are where it's at.

My friend is a huge fan of Circa Survive. I'm pretty cold on them. She made me listen to a few albums and I totally thought the lead singer was a chick after listening to a full album. I only found out its a dude after she told me.

I really dislike that singer, sounds like a chick, can't understand what he's saying 80% of the time. yeah.

Glad you like them though!

@clonedzero: Well I guess your friend has good taste! That's what everyone says about both bands, really. The singing is just hit or miss, but I think the intensely mellow lyrics makes up the difference for me, for Circa.

@joshthebear: Fuck yea! I love Juturna. I started listening to that first Saosin EP, just to try it. I never listened to them much. It sounds alright.

@rubberluffy: I love Circa shows. Anthony makes the show worthwhile. Its a shame he was sick.

I remember one show I went to where he just liked saying "Teehas," and how much he loves the place. (Texas) And then he called us all "his little-babies," all night.

@believer258: Uhm, I could kind of see the Atreyu similarity there. I don't like where the direction they went, though. And I just can't see much Killswitch you're thinking of.. Just nah.

Yeah it was a real shame he was sick. I knew something was off when he came out and his voice was really wobbly, and the merch lady confirmed it on our way out (I bought Violent Waves).

Still think Juturna is my favorite album of theirs. I still have the poster from pre-ordering it all those years back.

Anthony's Saosin was great, his replacement was an ok imitation but nothing really matches Anthony.

Favorite Saosin song

Lol.

Circa Survive are(were) awesome. Same with almost everything Anthony Green touches really. That first Saosin EP, everything SOAF, even his solo stuff was good, and I don't care much for acoustic stuff.

Also people who think they suck "cause the singer sounds like a girl" are idiots.

Juturna blew my damn mind when I was in high school. I didn't take it out of my CD player for months. I basically listened to it until the release of On Letting Go which is, in my eyes, The Hangover II of Circa Survive albums. It's so similar to Juturna that I couldn't enjoy it because I had already heard it.

They still hold a pretty big spot in my musical upbringing.

I really like The Sound of Animals Fighting too.

@alexw00d: @blu3v3nom07: Well, the last time I heard anything Chiodos-related was high school, which for me ended in the first half of 2010. I guess I was wrong, that Circa Survive song sounds much better.

Also, the only other male singer I've heard reach such highs for an entire song is A Skylit Drive.

Some of my close friends were into these bands. I never understood it, or anything Anthony Green has done really.

I really like All's Well That Ends Well, but I thought Bone Palace Ballet was only listenable at best. Don't even know that I gave Illuminaudio a full listen because lolnotcraigowens.

Dance Gavin Dance is one of my favorite bands, though, so I'm used to albums sounding entirely different with different personnel and ignoring certain ones because they're ass.

Went to school with the dudes from Fall of Troy and was pretty good friends with the lead singer of the Blood Brothers, pretty cool to see that they're getting some work after they both split.

Well, that's the sappy-artsy video they posted last year that I was talking about. I'm just glad they're back together. No more insinuation in Craig's songs. But dammit, waiting til 2014 for a new album though..

I do wish D.R.U.G.S. would of put out a 2nd album by now. Same with Isles & Glaciers, I suppose.

I could never really get into Chiodos. But the guitarist from The Fall of Troy just joined the band as lead guitarist and I was a pretty big fan of TFOT, so I'm definitely interested in listening to their next album. I definitely don't listen to this brand of post-hardcore nearly as much as I used to a few years back though.

Whoa, holy shit, that's news to me. Looks like it's about time to get into Chiodos again, I never got into anything but their first album, but it still gets occasional play from me.

Circa Survive is pretty alright, but it's probably my least favorite Anthony Green project. Which means they're still damn good.

I grew up on Saosin and felt pissed as hell when Circa came into being.

I still miss Saosin.
