@manburger: First off, thanks for the continued readership!
Even though console RPGs had been around since the mid 80's, it wasn't until the PS1 generation that players in the west really started to give a damn. This is commonly attributable to FFVII, but if it was just that game people would have stopped caring about them pretty quick. Though, the popularity of RPGs only continued to grow afterwards, so I want to see what was going on with all of those games. Also, it doesn't feel right to only put a couple of hours into any given RPG for this series, but they also take a lot of time. The solution I came to was to start going through them well ahead of time so that I can have a complete picture by the time they come around in the ordering. This will be pretty easy to do at first but it's going to become mildly unreasonable once I get to 1998.
Actually, a more honest answer would be that it's a terrible idea, which makes it the perfect streaming project.
@jeffrud: Ah, well there's your problem. You did the Final Fantasy fist bump wrong. You should Google 'Final Fantasy fisting' to find out the correct method.
@lab392: The square boxes take a few weeks to phase in, but we're pretty much there. Considering how few options there were to play those old arcade games back in the day, compilations made sense. Especially as dad games.
@gtxforza: I mean, of course, most of those old arcade games are good. I guess the museum part would have been kind of a trip back in the 90's.
@manburger: I really need to figure out what was going on with the Japanese fighting game market in the 90's. Not only were Capcom and SNK seemingly in an arms race, but everyone eventually got in on the action in one form or another before the whole thing crashed and died. Was it some kind of fad or bubble? What kind of madness was going on with Japanese arcades? How much information is available in English? This will all need to be addressed eventually.
@judaspete: It would be funny if it were more competently done.
@gtxforza: I guess I didn't talk enough about how the actual driving itself is one of the most functional pieces of gameplay I've yet seen on the 3DO. There's just nothing you can do with it.
@cozmicaztaway: Any decent playthrough is less than an hour, so it won't take up much of your time and it's mostly worth it.
I didn't include the story of how Rubin and Gavin were able to get their fantasy game published by EA because it wasn't really necessary. Apparently, the two were being shown around the EA offices in '89 while they were shopping for a publisher. That was at the same time the bootleg Genesis dev kit was being made and Gavin somehow recognized it for what it was. They ended up negotiating a publishing deal with Hawkins in exchange for signing a NDA about the criminal shenanigan they witnessed. A lot of wacky coincidences happened on the way to Crash Bandicoot and at least two of them are Hawkins' fault.
@jeffrud: What's that? I didn't fully hear you there. I think you said you want me to post a full playthrough of Plumbers Don't Wear Ties that I found on YouTube. Here ya go.

Though, funny story about the porn vibes (not "haha" funny mind you), there's a cheat code you can enter that removes some of the censoring in the fake porn section. Though, it mostly just removes the censoring which covers the male nudity. It's a joke, you see. Do...do you get the joke? Ok, so, they assumed only horny straight guys play video games, and that those guys would want to see the censored boobs, but instead when they put in the pervy cheat code they mainly just get the censored dong and man butt. It's a humorous prank. Are you laughing? I awkwardly explained the joke so now you're supposed to laugh...laugh damnit.
You might not explicitly endorse piracy, but I do. If a game is old enough to easily emulate than it's old enough to play for free. If FromSoft doesn't care about making these AC games readily playable than they're fair game for however you want to get hands on them.
Baldur's Gate is for nerds, do a thing on FromSoft's terrible old survival horror games. Let's keep this train rolling off the rails.
Hopefully you'll find it deeply unsettling when I tell you that Gex 2 is a massive improvement over the first. Also, you're very fortunate to have not made it to the Boba Fett boss fight in Shadows of the Empire, because yeesh.
