So thumbs down to that full, retail-style version of the game unless you are somehow locked in a world where you refuse to play anything unless it's on Steam. I don't know why you'd live that way, but you know what? People are weird. Did I say weird? I meant extremely particular.

Well, guess that makes me extremely particular then. I felt a little insulted by this passage at first glance, but after thinking about it, I guess I am a bit of an outlier nowadays. Even though I'm aware that having a game in my Steam or GOG library doesn't actually mean I own the game (except if I downloaded and locally stored the installer from GOG), it does feel more like it than subscribing to a temporary access pass.

Also I'm not interested in playing lots of games just to have taken a peek at them, but prefer a curated library and take lots of time with the games I actually want to play - a counterpart to Jeff's (and probably the majority of other people's) private and professional situation. Having family cuts away a lot of leisure time to deeply dive into a story focused game, as does the demand of being knowledgeable about a wide field of games for Giant Bomb.

I am someone who tends to go back and replay games I bought 10 years ago, so the modern "games as a service" business does nothing for me and, in fact, has turned me away from multiplayer gaming as a whole. It also made me boycot any single player games with online-required DRM, and hesitant to buy single player games containing MTX or additional launchers - anything that might keep me from accessing a game I paid for in the future.

This might seem a weird stance nowadays, and there's probably a whole lot of arguments against it, ranging from "You're missing out on so many great games!" to the more succinct "Okay, Boomer.", but I think I'll be fighting on this dumb hill until the classic single player game has become extinct. And I'll keep doing it because of

Hey, it's your money.

this.

As long as paying full price (or waiting a couple years for a game to go on sale) makes me feel better about my purchase, I'll do it simply for the feeling, the subconscious (if ill-advised) hope that I can pull this game up from my library when I'm in my 50s and enjoy it again without a "service" provider taking that from me.

For me, that's worth it. Even if it does make me extremely particular. <3

I admit that I didn't know anything about your work before you started making vids for GB, but once I had watched your Puzzle Agent Let's Plays I was sure that you'd make an awesome addition to the GB team.

This is fantastic news, congratulations and welcome, Jess! 🍔

What's so great about this series to me is that at some point in each episode Dan will say some throwaway bullshit line that makes me laugh until I'm in tears, which, me being a cynical old fart, has become exceedingly rare.

Dan going "I only know vacuum as, like, BRRRRR" did it though. Don't even know why.

Never change, Dan!

I loved Kai's Power Goo back in the day, so that thumbnail holds no terror for me.

This looks intriguing, I should probably buy this.

Since I've never owned a console and therefore never played a JRPG, this might be the best opportunity to dip my toe into a modern take on the genre. That combat is action-focused instead of the turn-based slog JRPGs always looked like from afar is a welcome bonus.

Also the writing seems really good. After Ben said on the Bombcast that there were some knocks on the 4th wall and allusions to MMO and RPG tropes I feared this game was just another meme dispenser. Glad this is not the case.

It's disorienting to me how terrain elevation is displayed though. I find it hard to understand where the character can jump to/from, and whether she can move to a certain spot at all.
