Jeff Gerstmann, Pessimist. Can always find something to not like about games that most people enjoy, and focus on those with laser-like precision..

I can't help but think how much better these would be if Ryan was still around to sort of counteract the Jeff.

Don't get me wrong I like Jeff a lot, but he can tend to focus on the negative aspect of games in a way that can be a drag. I feel like Ryan was always good at bringing out the lighter side of Jeff's demeaner

So, i had just started watching the video when i made the last comment and was only a few minutes into it. To be fair, I don't think he knew they were streaming at the time. And he seemed to enjoy himself more once they got going on some missions.

That said, he can still come across as overly negative towards games that have a lot to enjoy but may have some elements that are either rough or purposely obtuse for whatever reason.

His criticisms are definitely valid from his perspective. But It seems to me that he can get hung up on things that most everyone else will acknowledge but overlook, or even enjoy because of the sense of immersion or whatever.

Its just something I've been noticing lately. He seems to harp on games pretty insistently even when he is the only one bothered by the aspect he doesn't like and it can get a little (for lack of a better word) nitpicky.

Like I said before it seemed like Ryan was pretty good at tempering that side of jeff when it meant there was fun to be had.

I still find Jeff's opinions very informative. He is really good at breaking down and articulating his points of view in a way that is easy to understand and informative

I've been playing solo foe like six hours and enjoying myself for the most part. Although running into other boats is terrifying and really hard to win a battle. The best you can do is fend them off.

Also why does Abby insist on looking at the chart upside down??

It's crazy seeing a game featuring Haines Alaska. I live sixty miles south of Haines, in Juneau Alaska. Haines is a super tiny town, and it almost looked like they actually modeled the game town after the real thing.

I've been playing the wii u version. only like ten or so hours in. It's definitely got some serious frame rate issues, however it's still completely playable so far. There was a couple times where it straight up hung for like a second as soon as i killed a couple bigger enemies, then other times killing the same guys was fine. The worst places for me so far have been like the villages and places where there are a lot of people and things crammed into a single area. Thankfully there is no action in those places.

I've only beaten the first two Zelda games, OG Zelda, and The Adventure of Link. Both when they were released and I was in like fourth grade and maybe sixth grade. Was playing Horizon before this and will get back after because I really like where it's going. For now I find myself drawn to this Zelda as its reminding me of the first in some ways.

I think part of what I'm really liking is the lack of voiced dialogue. There isn't always someone commenting on what I'm looking at, it's just me and the ambient music and world noises. Things like the sound of the wind or rain, or critters in the environment. The music is kind of understated in a way that creates a sense of solitude in certain places that I really appreciate.

There isn't always the character commenting on what "I need to do" over and over while I just want to take in a piece of scenery, or just check out an environment. I hate when I want to just chill and check some shit out and the game thinks I'm stuck so the PC starts repeating dialogue to try to "help" me. Things like that take me out an experience and just irritate me.

Also I've been finding things that I know have a purpose, but I haven't figured out what the purpose is yet. That really reminds me of original Zelda. Of course I've missed so many of the Zelda games that there are probably a ton of things that I just don't know.

I was starting to worry that I might fall off the game, but after Dan telling his story of flying to a certain place which triggered a certain thing. And that there is more things like that to find is encouraging.

I just hope the wii u version holds up all the way through. I'm a little worried with some of the framey stuff that has happened so far, but I can't justify a new console just for this one game.

TL DR

So far the wii u version is playable ten hours in. The game is drawing me in and I find myself thinking about it throughout the day, which for me doesn't happen too often.

I've been playing mostly at night and have fallen asleep while playing a couple of times. I have no recollection of the cut scene at the end of the episode. At first I was thinking there must be multiple ways the story plays out. But now I think I must've dozed off and missed it. Next week when they find the homeless guys should clear it up for sure.

Also You guys need to fin d the side story with the famous pop star!!!

I watch this about once a year. Sometimes I even just go to the early quick looks because they have Ryan in them. Not the same without you man.
