My monitor already has a headphone jack, so I'm presuming I wouldn't need that?

Pardon my ignorance but let me just ask... could I leave the HDMI to DVI cable connected and then use the standard red, yellow and white sound cable from my PS3 into my monitor's speaker jack to get sound that way? Or am I missing some link?
