I know there has been a lot of outcry over "old dudes being pessimistic on games" on this site lately and I am afraid to consider it may be influencing the opinions the staff feel they can share. This was not a good presentation for showing the future of games in my opinion, many of the games showed either had little to no gameplay or didnt look like they required anything close to next gen hardware to achieve. There are many moments during this conference where it looks like the staff have internal "negative" criticism churning that they don't share, or they are clearly reaching to say something positive even if it isn't exceptional. Yet the general tone of the staff was "optimistic" even with such a flimsy showcase.
The staff on this site have a HUGE depth of game experience and knowledge, I come to them for a tough and fair discussion on what it takes to make games stand out and showcase an evolving medium. This conference did none of that, many have called it a showcase of "Game ass games", and this staff should criticize it for doing little to nothing new and failing to sell us on why we need a new generation of hardware if they show titles than honestly look like a step back (Halo).
I just hope in this age of everyone's opinion influencing everyone elses (mine too now) the staff feel like they can, and should be honest with their thoughts regardless of their reception or tone. Don't pull punches because people cant handle negativity, negative criticism from knowledgeable and insightful critics (the staff) is always worthwhile.
The Gunk, and The Honey I Shrunk the Kids game look great.
