Some of my favorite horror games, based both on how much they scared/unnerved me and how good they were. Sometimes that's interchangeable, sometimes not.
The list might also include games not really considered horror per se, but apparently they still scared me and deserves a spot here.
The patriarch of storytelling and atmosphere in games. One of the best games ever made, and one of the scariest and most messed up experiences ever conceived. Probably.
While the story isn't on par with the masterpiece that is Silent Hill 2, everything else pretty much is.
A game that really stand the test of time. The polygons might look like shit, but damn if the atmosphere and scares aren't as good as they always have been.
This game had issues with game design and a bit too much combat, but the story is still one of the most interesting in the series. And the first-person scenes inside the room are a really great addition. They make for quite a few intense and scary moments throughout. Also, yes, it might seem like I'm spamming this series, but frankly, Silent Hill 1 through 4 are some of the best horror experiences I've ever had. These four games deserve to be here. Too bad the moment western developers took the mantle everything turned to shit. Not that Homecoming or Origins are outright bad games, just horrible Silent Hill games, and shouldn't exist under that name.
