I really hope in all this reflex defenses and attacks, people can breathe and read these experiences and understand that these stories should add to your personal experiences, not replace them. Other people being treated better means everyone is treated better. Humanity isn’t a finite resource.
Thank you for posting this. It’s speaks to a lot of truths I see. It’s painful how many truly horrible people I’ve known become cops because their worst impulses are fostered there. It’s painful to see my partner’s brother in law assume if a black man knows him it’s because he arrested him. It’s painful to hear his son say he wants to be a cop but that they down have enough free reign anymore to “control the animals.”
I have a real pet peeve for people who don’t like something anymore, and instead of just laying out why or moving on, they couch it in a bs “ARE THEY OKAY? I’M WORRIED ABOUT THEM” angle. That’s what I’d expect the mom from Everybody Loves Raymond would do.
