Since last week I haven't been able to click on the HD button on the videos. Before I was able to view the much larger window for the videos. Now when I click HD it says for subscribers only. My yearly membership renewed today but I had access to all the other "member only" videos last week, just not in HD. I'm using Firefox 6.0.2 and I also tried it on Internet Explorer 9.0.2. Thanks

Hey rentfn, try restarting your browser (or possibly trying a different browser for testing purposes).

If that does not work, try clearing your cache/cookies for GB and WhiskeyMedia. You'll have to login again, but it should fix the problem. @reply these suggestions do not fix the problem. Thanks :)

@Heli0s: @Dain22: Hey guys, I just tried and successfully subscribed to the GB QuickLook HD video feed in iTunes (http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/feed/hd/3/).

This should be the input and url you are providing to iTunes.

And here is the most recent item downloading.

I will try removing my iTunes saved password out of my keychain to see if the basic auth logic works as expected.

I just signed up for a premium account and promptly found the premium RSS for quicklooks. When I put this feed into iTunes (Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast) it continually prompts for my username and password. I've verified several times that I'm entering the correct info. Could it be I just need to wait a few hours for my credentials as a premium member to be recognized by iTunes? Is anyone else experiencing something similar?

Thanks for the heads up Heli0s. Can you please post the url of the feed you are trying to subscribe to in iTunes?

I'm sure you are still working on it @coonce but I just wanted to say that I got the issue with a refresh of the feed this morning.

A patch was just deployed. Would you mind re-subscribing to the video feed and let me know if you continue to see any issues. Thanks duder :)

Found and fixed this bug around 6pm Friday evening. I've deployed to Screened production and can verify that it works. I was going to deploy to the rest of the sites until I realized that its 6pm Friday evening and I'm not as cavalier as I used to be.

Expect this patch to hit GB production boxes sometime Monday morning. Thanks for your help tracking this bug down.

Can you confirm that this only happens with the 'main feed' (http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/feed/hd/) and that it does not happen with any of the filtered feeds (http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/feed/hd/2/)?

@AtomicEdge: After further testing, it appears that the feed logic is working as it should.

I'm going to try reproducing this bug in iTunes against GB production. I'll check the exact same feed you are using: http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/feed/hd/

I'll have an update by the end of the day.

Are the premium RSS feeds supposed to support anything aside from iTunes? I've tried using both Juice and Miro and both of them fail to authenticate.

Currently iTunes is our only supported platform, however if Juice and Miro support basic auth then theoretically they should work exactly the same as iTunes.

I am using this feed: http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/feed/hd/
It's happening in iTunes.
Every time the feed refreshes, it shows the most recent 10 items as new, so downloads them, even if I have downloaded them before.
I have iTunes setup to check for new podcasts every 2 hours, and download all new episodes. I also have it set to keep all unmatched episodes and watch all the videos within a couple of days of them coming out, so I usually have about 10 unwatched videos in the queue. If I leave my iTunes library on for 10 hours, I come back and I have the most recent 10 videos in my podcast feed 5 times each. If I manually refresh, I will get the most recent 10 again.

With the protected HD feed and iTunes, we pass a time stamped token along with each video in the feed which is translated and authenticated on our side and used to fetch the protected resource (video) on S3. This token is only valid for ~10 minutes, and will typically be refreshed each time iTunes requests the feed. Since the token appended to each feed item is now different, iTunes marks each video in the feed as new.

To counter this, we track each video iTunes has downloaded on your behalf on our side and explicitly exclude them from the videos returned in the feed. If your iTunes client is downloading duplicate items, then there is a bug on our end.

I'm in the process of tracking it down right now and we should have a fix out shortly. Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused and I appreciate the detailed explanation of what is happening on your end - it goes a long way in reproducing the bug.
