This makes my first Steam sale. Here's my final haul:

  • Alice: Madness Returns
  • Analogue: A Hate Story
  • Ben There, Dan That!
  • Dead Space
  • Dead Space 2
  • Dear Esther
  • Half-Life 2
  • Half-Life 2: Episode One
  • Half-Life 2: Episode Two
  • L.A. Noire
  • Mirror's Edge
  • Portal
  • Shining Force II
  • The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
  • Time Gentlemen, Please!

All told, I spent about 47.80. Feeling pretty good about it so far.

Just grabbed Alice: Madness Returns for $5, and I've made a list of other stuff I'm keeping an eye on.

Which is kind of nuts, given that I don't actually have a computer that can play games at the moment. I'm basically buying games on spec.

@Video_Game_King: Noby Noby Boy and Linger in Shadows both say hi.

Sony is perfectly happy putting out weird non-games on their platform; I'd say this has more to do with the fact that this thing looks like a million lawsuits waiting to happen.

If I'm seeking out something in particular for purchase, I always do so digitally, unless it's simply not available online (which dos happen every once in a while). I do, however, really enjoy digging through CDs at thrift stores looking for cool stuff. In those cases, it really has more to do with enjoying the search than it does any need to own the physical objects.

Assassin's Creed Revelations

Trine 2

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine

I knew creating a list of every game I've played dating back to 1980 would prove useful someday.

Also; man, some of you play a shocking number of games.

@Addfwyn: My issue is that neither the volume or quality of games offered on PS+ has been terribly impressive until last month. Up to that point, you'd get a few games each month, and often the majority of those games were cheap shovelware like Hamsterball. With a few exceptions, the minis aren't great, and getting access to PSOne Classics has primarily taught me that I really don't want to play old Playstation games. Honestly, even if the games being made available were all hits, the value of PS+ would still differ pretty highly on a per subscriber basis. Every month they put out around three games, and the value that represents goes down with each game among that group that the subscriber already owns or just isn't interested in; if I already own or don't care about anything they put out in a given month, then the value I get out of the service for that month is effectively zero. I'd argue the value of the discounts you receive is fairly dubious too, given that you're paying to receive access to those discounts.

You're right that the volume of games subscribers have access to at any one point remains consistent at 12, but that's really kind of meaningless. Once you've played those games, having access to them doesn't really matter anymore; their presence as part of the instant game collection provides you with nothing of value as a subscriber. The only thing that actually matters is the number of new games you get access to each month, and with the exception of last month, that hasn't changed. This month we get three new games, same as before. I already own one of them, and couldn't give a shit about the other two. So what do I get out of being a subscriber this month? Nothing.

I know this is a pretty long post and I don't mean to be a jerk, but I really want PS+ to be good. Last month it looked briefly like it could become something great; Sony did an excellent job last month. I just don't think doing a good job one month out of twelve cuts it.

@Redbullet685: I could be wrong, but I don't really remember them saying three games a month when they made the announcement. They made a big deal about the volume of games included when they announced the instant game collection, so it was sort of implied I thought that their intent was to be consistent with that level of content. If they're really just continuing to do three games a month, then Plus is just as disappointing as it ever was.

After last month, I was wondering how Sony was going to keep up with delivering that same volume of games every month. I guess the answer is that they won't. That's disappointing.

@beard_of_zeus: I don't remember the ending of Hydrophobia being particularly bad, but maybe that's just because the entire game is pretty bad.

I'll also echo people who have said Assassin's Creed and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Human Revolution was especially disappointing, with its four buttons all leading to a couple minutes of pseudophilosophical posturing over stock footage; it was disappointing, given how much I enjoyed the world they created for that game.
