At what cost

There’s been the usual blow up and hoo-hah about the new paid for avatar clothing, and anything I’d have to say on the subject has already been said many times over around the net, so I’ll just summarise this with an example.

 Tattoos

Can you pay money for someone to put art on your body? Certainly

Would I ever do so? Probably Not

Will I defend someone’s right to do so (within reason): Absolutly

That said.. anyone who buys any single item from the avatar marketplace forfeits their right to complain about The Sims Addon Packs!

Hmm I don't see how a tattoo and avatar gear is really the same.

I don't see what "reasonable limit" there could be on a person's right to tattoo him or herself. If they want to make it impossible to get a job with uptight douchebags, they should be free to.

Also, I don't see how anyone deciding to purchase one thing would negate their right to criticize or question the purchase of another thing.

Exercising one right should never negate another. If you have rights that require the negation of other rights (or the rights of others), then your rights are privileges, not rights.

Yeah, moral of this post, don't go throwing around the word "right" so recklessly if you don't want me to fill your thread with incredulity. This doesn't negate your right to misuse that noun, I'm just saying it invites me to exercise my rights is all.

I would like a policy that works more like the real world.

Give me the tools to edit and create my own, do it for free and probably do a terrible job at it at least for the first few attempts, or let me pay some 'professional' to do it properly. Alas, the virtual world does not work such a way!

@Suicrat: Fair point, the last comment was intended as a throw away humorous remark.. guess I missed the target. As for my 'reasonable limit' I mearly meant I would not jump to the defence of someone who'd chosen to tat a Swastika on there forehead .. if you see my point.

@countstex: Yeah... I posted that comment just before falling asleep, I think my sarcasm detector starts to malfunction the more tired I get.

I think user created content would quickly turn into a logistical nightmare of copyright infringement and a plethora of 'ism' problems real fast.
