Battlefied 3's BETA ended today. Thoughts and suggestions.

Was just done playing the BETA yesterday, and as many people have, I've stumbled across many issues (BETA, duh!) and here is what I think they should fix/add to the game:

Glitches: Screen going blue after respawn, going white if you look in a certain direction, going pink/black and messy while changing weapons (not all the time, of course). Grenade sticking to bushes when thrown while proning/hiding in one.

Terrain: Falling into texture. Flying off map if shot dead (high impact bullets?). Being pushed by "teammates" while defusing/planting which stops it.

Stuff I'd like to see: 1) Being able to change class/weapons/attachments while waiting for respawns and while waiting for the match to start (being able to customize stuff/dogtags on the waiting screen before the beginning of a match). 2) Simpler and more easy to navigate class/weapon/attachment selection screen. 3) Ability to mute annoying squad mates and for them to see I muted them, maybe even them sending me a request to unmute them (if they'd get their shit straight). 4) Having some sort of feedback (visual/audio) to when I ask teammates for ammo/medpacks (select button). 5) Having some indication if I am the one being asked. 6) Arming/disarming gauge continues even when I turn the camera around. 7) More streamlined HUD with less stuff on it, smaller text and only "important" info displayed (specifically: corners). 8) Diving in water (?)

Keep: The laser and flashlight as it is! Their advantages and disadvantages are obvious and they add more to the strategic aspect of the game. Why people are asking to dumb it down boggles me.

Some might have been already addressed, others I simply overlooked or didn't realize were already there. What did you guys think of the BETA? Was there anything you thought they should've added, removed or done better?

I like the flashlight and laser but I really wish they were off when you spawned. That way I don't have to remember to turn them off before I get going and it will keep the guys who have no idea what they are doing from running around and blinding their teammates. That would at least force people to learn how to turn them off and on. Hopefully the enemy will keep them on so I can spot them more easily.

All the other stuff I'd like to see changed are the obvious things. Glitches, squads management, menu access while dead, etc. Same stuff everyone wants. I'd like the command system to be back but that isn't going to happen so I got over it.

Actually, maybe a way to auto kick/ban players who whine in the chat about people who need to "lrn 2 play".

Fix locking up at the loading screen. Maybe add a couple more shots needed to take someone down.

The flashlight needs to be nerfed; obscured vision is fine, but if i'm completely blind when you're spraying bullets at me then there's a problem.

btw, here's some things they've confirmed they're fixing, taken straight from the official Battlefield 3 blog:

1. Squad issues: Cannot play with friends within same squad, squads get split up onto opposite teams, etc.

There will be improved squad functionality in the retail game (including but not limited to): the ability to create squads prior to launching into a game, sticking with your squad when joining a game and continuing together through future games (If team balance on the server allows it), inviting friends to a squad and changing squads once in game.

2. Regarding additional Open Beta content and fixes/patches for consoles, including PlayStation 3 issues with chat and party systemsWhile we would like to patch the Open Beta, DICE is currently focusing its available resources on polishing the retail game.

3. Will DICE have enough time to iron out everything by release? Please see General Manager Karl Magnus Troedsson's blog post regarding this question.

4. Can we have ability to change settings/options before deployment into match on PC?The ability to modify your settings via the deploy screen has been added into the retail game.

5. Issues with terrain stability and “falling into the map” on Operation MétroThis has been fixed for the beta via a server side update.

6. Kill cam sometimes zooms out too far or outside the map

This has been fixed for the launch of the retail game.

7. A bug that sometimes keeps some players from being able to sprintThis has been fixed for the launch of the retail game.

8. Screen flickering/stuttering. Blue screen remains after respawn. Game locks up after deploying C4 (360)This has been fixed for the launch of the retail game.

9. Downed bodies appear to be dead, but are not

The DICE team has been looking into this issue – which is caused by a combination of incidents in a confined area - and are working hard to address the issue for the launch of the retail game.

10. Why is the hit detection seemingly different from Battlefield: Bad Company 2?

The netcode is one of the many things that we are testing as part of the Open Beta and is not necessarily reflective of the final retail game. The DICE team appreciates and has heard the feedback you’ve provided and is further optimizing online play.

Higher altitude map, set in a mountainous area to allow for real clouds, this could add another layer to the dogfights.

Because they didn't want to spend time fixing a beta when they got a game to release in two weeks.

i'd like the flashlight/laser sight to be less effective against teammates.

the main reason i say this, is annoying dicks that follow you around and grief you by shining a flashlight in your face the entire time. it happened to me multiple times. not to mention the non-purposeful times they sit there and shine a laser in your face when you're trying to guard a point or something.

also the ability to access the menu while dead is VERY IMPORTANT. thats WHEN i want to access the damn menu. also, a functional squad menu inside the game.

this!!!!!!! i think they should have a setting in the kit menu shit where you can have it on or off when spawned. cause im sure theres people that wont want it turned off

As a PS3 gamer my number 1 thing for Dice to address is the ability for me to flip the shoulder and trigger functionality. Every other game does it but not Battlefield.

A way to see the whole overhead map in-game, and the ability to pause/change settings at all times.

You can't pause the game when in MP, but changing settings anytime is fixed according to the Dice blog

I had to sit there and listen to a guy's dog barking into the mic while he yells out the dog's name to shut up every 2 seconds for 12 minutes straight. I turned all 13-year-old on the screen for a good 10 seconds by the end.

I really liked the beta. I got to play both maps quite a bit and it definitely feels like a Battlefield game to me. I wouldn't call myself a diehard BF player but like most people I've played it on and off since BF1942. Seeing as my last real experience with these games was BF2, this is a huge leap in all sorts of directions. I might get the game if the buddy I played the PC beta with gets it. Oh and definitely keep tac-lights and lasers as they are, they make things more interesting.

Keep the flashlights. It makes sniping people who forget to turn them off on big maps or daytime maps 100x easier. I hated the beta at first, but once I started unlocking stuff it was way more fun. Once I got the paddles, medic became way more fun, because it felt like BF2. Also, more Conquest, less Rush please.

M brings up the full map, just like BF2 IIRC.

The most satisfying thing about that game I found was you could do really well doing purely support roles, which is what I always used to do in BF2, and that it promotes using skill over just shooting (IE: You can get way better scores with support roles than going pure assault, making it so people will actually do the support aspect of each class, not just M50ing it like in BC2). I got 2nd overall one game (first on my team, other team had one guy ahead of me who spawn camped with an M249) with a sick K/D of 4/16. I set both mcoms at the start of Operation Metro, got one, got tons of revives and heals, and ended up beating second place on my team by like 400 points. I saw other people do similar things in other games which definitely indicates they want people to do support things, not just play it like COD.
