I dunno, I managed to do most of the content in the first game solo. It's more fun playing with guildies though :P
Since I never tried the first game I'm not 100% sure how it was structured. I'd heard the game was designed to have most, if not all, content able to be done solo. The games I spent the most time with though are the ones I played in groups with. Final Fantasy XI being the prime example, mostly because you couldn't do anything in that game without at least six people. I played The Old Republic solo which was fine until max level. After that it just felt like there was nothing to do without a group and I eventually just unsubscribed. Not having a LFG system I think killed it for me.
Who knows though, maybe the problem is just me :P. I hope having people around though will make the game that much more enjoyable.
