2014 was a year of catching up on older titles for me. I discovered Dark Souls and Spelunky this year, which are now two of my favorite games of all time. However, I still played some great games that actually came out this year. Here's a list of those games.
Note: there's some big games absent from this list because I lacked the time and money to play them. Alien: Isolation, Bayonetta 2, The Evil Within, and D4 are all major games I plan on playing next year.
It may not reach the level of greatness that Dark Souls 1 did, but it is still a game I will be returning to for the rest of my life.
It's not every year you get to experience a game with this much personality. I will replay this game for the jokes alone, like re-watching an old classic.
Not officially released this year, but the game reached its true potential this year. The perfect overhead shooter IMO.
More Far Cry 3 with new stuff, and they added the right the stuff. Gyrocopters and elephants provided some of the best moments I've ever had in a game.
Perfectly captures the NES charm that it tries to capture. A very pleasant experience, from top to bottom.
Tim Schafer does his thing, even if only briefly.
Although I spent very little time with this game, I have to respect it for being one of the most original twists on the horror game genre in years.
