Silent Hill Shattered Memories is a unique game that first was released back in 2009 on the Wii and then later ported to the PS2 and PSP it's a shame it never made it to the 360, PS3, and PC. The game is a reimagining of the original Silent Hill game. You play as Harry Mason who gets into a car crash in a snow storm and his daughter goes missing. You as a player talk to a therapist leading up to the events after the crash. What is interesting about this game is that it psychology profiles you the questions the therapist ask you, your answers will have an affect on your game and characters you meet down the road. The atmosphere in this game is stunning the snowy setting feels very immersive and comforting at times. But the game can change in a instant and the town will start getting completely covered in ice and creatures will come and chase you. Your goal is to escape and find a exit there is no weapons but only a flare to scare them away temporarily. Another interesting mechanic in the game is that you can use your cell phone to not only call random numbers in the game world but also use it as a camera to take pictures of ghost and get a audio message after to tell their story. The soundtrack in this game is phenomenal it was the last time Akira Yamaoka from the original team silent developers made music for this series. The ending of the game has a major twist that was cleaver and felt very satisfy. To sum it up Silent Shattered Memories was a interesting title that pushed innovation and story telling. You can tell the Devs of the game Until Dawn where very inspired by this there is alot of similarities from a shrink to the butterfly effect. I feel Shattered Memories was ahead of it's time and it's a shame that not many people have played this game because it was a Wii mature game and a very late PS2 and PSP game. SH:SM is a forgotten gem that deserves a HD remaster so everybody can experience it.

10 years ago Crysis was released this fall far from a tech demo and an end of a era for PC gaming

It's hard to believe Crysis is turning 10 years old this year looking back at this game and what happen afterwards to PC gaming is disappointing but also hopeful. Crysis is a game that push PC hardware and graphics forever it was the start of real time shadows and fully destructible environments. But the thing that people always overlook when it comes to Crysis is how fun it was to play and mess around in the sandbox levels being creative with the environment and using objects as a weapon. The story was pretty basic not bad but nothing mindblowing it had some good level variety starting from your regular tropical island to a frozen one and also being inside Alien ship which was a nice change of setting. There was MP it wasn't bad but I never got deep into it. The weapons in Crysis where fun you could attach your scopes, silencers on the fly which was something I never seen before and was a really cool part of the weapon design. All in all Crysis was a fun game and really pushed PC graphic cards hard it wasn't optimized very well but having a quad core processor at the time was key. Crysis also marks the end of a Era for PC gaming to me personally this of the last game of the golden age of PC gaming you can say it started with Doom in 93 and ended with Crysis. This was the last FPS AAA PC exclusive that ever existed by a big time Publisher EA. After Crysis and it's expansion Warhead the series had two sequels that couldn't touch the original in terms of gameplay and destructible environments the games got dumbed down and the magic was gone. In the end Crysis was the final game that you could brag about to friends and show off but there was no need to upgrade your PC after this for years it was a game for PC enthusiast and left us with that one question can it run Crysis?

How Call of Duty 4 ruined the FPS genre

First thing if you like the COD series don't read this simple as that ok this will be a rant or whatever you want to call it.

The FPS genre in the past 9 years has been in intoxicated with simple minded gameplay and gimmicks.COD4 dumbed a generation of games and gamers there is a term use that best describes this COD syndrome all the publishers saw money after modern warfare came out and they sold out faster than Bono.Lets start with some games series that where really great but than completely change after MW came out. The first victim and this is this the most painful one for me is the F.E.A.R. series the original game is amazing still to to this day it has probably the most satisfy gun combat I have ever played in a game it also had amazing AI the game was ahead of it's time.In 2009 they released the sequel Project Origin but there was something wrong with this game the AI is alot dumber the weapon sounds are weak and the guns have barely any recoil if any the grenades have indicators it's missing alot of particle effects and shadows are missing it was dumbed down and a product of COD syndrome here is video showing missing shadows ect.

Ok next Victim is the Crysis series people would always say Crysis felt like a tech demo I don't agree at all. The game not only had ground breaking graphics that still hold up today but the gameplay was actually good and fun there was some tactics you could use to flank your enemies. Crysis 2 on the other hand got rid of that there wasn't much tactics at all and the guns had zero recoil if any the mp mode played like COD also there was less destruction and the lean feature in the first game was missing and replace by a weak strafe not to mention maximum speed was taken out and the game felt alot worst for it. You can say these PC games where consolized and that is true and COD4 was the start of this trend.

Last game on the list I could put many other games down but I'm just sticking to the three that pissed me off the most last one is Battlefield 3. You could say it started with bad company series and that is true but I'm giving it a pass because it was a spinoff and not a sequel to BF2. Anyway in my opinion and many others Battlefield 2 was the best in the series it brought great teamwork and tactics and vehicle warfare and the graphics back in the day where high end. So lets get to BF3 2011 first big change from two is all the worthless weapon loadouts that was copied from COD. In BF2 you would just unlock weapons no worthless attachments and the jets felt like you where flying paper airplanes in BF3 they felt off. Regenerating health was introduce in 3 what's the point of the medic now when you can just sit back behind cover and wait to heal the team work wasn't as needed in BF3 as much as BF2 also the commander mode was missing.

To finish this all up COD4 has done so much harm to the FPS genre it has lost what made FPS special. It's not all bad though things are slowing turning around games like Metro series and the new Wolfenstein is getting out some of that COD stink out but sadly some shit never changes look at the Doom MP beta loadouts really? All in All I think the FPS genre would be amazing now if COD4 never came out we would have more smarter and unique shooters like we use to.
