IP@E3: ID Software Partners With EA

Monday, July 14, 2008 by Kim

It was one of the biggest surprises from Day 1, and one that not many people saw coming. During the EA conference, John Carmack who is best known for co-founding "id Software," proclaimed that EA would be publishing id's upcoming fps, "Rage." Prior to this announcement, Activision, EA's #1 competitor served as the publisher of "id" properties.

While this announcement would have had people up in arms two years ago, in the new EA-friendly industry it seems like a good move. EA has impressed everyone with how they've treated the Valve partnership, and we have no doubt that we'll see the same with "id Software."

Not to be confused with a buyout, the partnership is exclusive to the release of "Rage," and no other titles are included within it. While Activision is still retaining the rights to publish Wolfenstein, that only makes us wonder what company will have their name stamped on the Doom 4 box?

Click below to see the trailer for Rage! Brought to you by id Software and EA Games.
