IP@E3: Top 3 Trailers From Day 1!

Monday, July 14, 2008 by Kim

The best thing about E3 is the fact that gaming fans are treated to more trailers than any other time of the year. In most cases, an impressive piece of media hits the net every few months giving all the kids something to talk about. That's different at E3. There are literally hundreds of trailers to choose from, and (sorry I have to quote a catchy t-shirt slogan here) if it's not done right, it should have never been done at all. No Fear.

The following list is our top 3 of Day 1. It took us all of 15 minutes to come up with this list, so you better damn well enjoy it. We didn't include any of the huge announcements like FFXIII for the 360 because there's a good chance you probably saw that. This is for the sloppy faced kids that are hocking their wares on the conference floors.

First up, is "Star Ocean: The Last Hope." We remember a time when any trailer for a JRPG was automatically the best thing shown, but times have changed. They're not really the draw they were 10 years ago, but that doesn't mean that this doesn't look good. It has cut-scenes, gameplay, and a pretty title graphic. We'll buy this.

I love Parkour, you love Parkour, let's make a game about Parkour. We're calling it right now, "Mirror's Edge" from EA is going to be Portal for the new year. Ok, that may be a big statement, but if EA does this thing right, it'll be huge. Big environments and puzzle solving seem to be pretty key in it, and the fighting looks fluid for a melee-based fps. Get out your glowsticks because the trailer has some funky trance music.

It doesn't have fancy 3D graphics or any waggle control, but Megaman 9 is old school. If there's anything we enjoy more than trance music, it's anything that's old school. I felt a little strange watching the trailer for Megaman 9. It was like I stumbled into 1989 and was writing for Nintendo Power. It was awesome and you can experience it too!

By the way, how come you never get those huge screen by screen maps in videogame mags anymore?
