Under-appreciated games of the sixth generation

I'm 18 years-old and the sixth generation of consoles was basically my childhood. The Ratchet & Clank, Jak, and Mario games of that era were my favorites. But there were also a good deal of really obscure/under-appreciated games from that time that I loved when I was little and/or that I love now. I just wanted to give them a shout out.

List items

  • Like many of the games on this list, this game got mixed reviews and I don't understand why. It's essentially a better-looking Warped. The levels are a lot of fun and there's tons of variety. Graphically, I've always thought it looks fantastic.

  • The story is a cheese sandwich, but the premise is interesting and the shooting feels great. This is a game I didn't get to play until recently and I think it holds up remarkably well.

  • Another game I just recently got to play. When I was little there were ads all over for this game and I wanted it so badly, but I didn't have the money. Considering the mixed reviews I didn't have high expectations when I picked it up recently, but it's actually a ton of fun. The graphics are lush and colorful, the platforming feels great, and the light RPG elements add a little extra something to the gameplay. The voice acting is great as well, and it follows the story of the book remarkably well.

  • This game is the reason I made this list. While many 3D platformers from this period of time now seem clunky and repetitive, I-Ninja still stands up. The game has charming graphics, great voice acting, fun combat, and fluid platforming. The use of Ratchet & Clank-like acrobatics such as swinging and wall-running add a lot of variety to the levels, as do the bonus challenges like time trials.

  • The Mark of Kri came before God of War and featured violent combat and a badass warrior for a main character. There was more to it than that, though. The game also featured a bird companion who could scout ahead for you, decent stealth mechanics, a slick art style, and a unique combat system. It still holds up.

  • Zelda in Ancient Egypt. If that doesn't sound appealing to you then frankly I'm at a loss.

  • This game didn't have to be good. It's a game based on a movie for little kids, so it could have been complete garbage and it wouldn't have mattered. But this is actually a totally competent platformer with nice graphics, good voice acting, and a sense of style that perfectly captures the show's spirit.

  • The gameplay in Tak isn't the most interesting, but it hardly matters because the production values elevate it above typical platformer standards. The graphics are vibrant, the voice acting and writing are top-notch, and the storyline and characters are genuinely funny.
